View Full Version : X16XE for its first 1/4 mile run

Its an X16XE, cone filter, middle box removed, SAV removed and EGR still in place. I also have a Super Ship for it but need the Correct ECU to run it.

It runs -60 springs on Koni Adjustables, 205/50s on Comps at the front and 195s on the rear, its got a rear cage fitted and no back seats.

We've got a Drag day coming up soon and I want to Corsa to surprise a few people. It would greatly benifit from one of those Diablas style boxes but I dont have the money to buy one new or used. My budget is very restricted unless second hand stuff can be gotten cheap.

I know I'm looking for something for nothing but anyone got any ideas or even how to make it go a little faster up the straight?

You know you can get new powerboxes for £120 over on corsasport (Guy called Flame makes them)

Not much i can think of myself, but even with a very well tuned car, the car is only as good as the driver.

Just sell something and buy one of those copy mantzel inlets off the bay, definately will be worth it. ;)

Edit: Alex is that the same guy from eBay? Theres a lot of really shiit copys out mate.

If its money you dont have then do things that dont cost!
let you front tyres down to about 8-10psi, lose some weight out the car, jack the back end up to transfer weight forward to the front wheels, remove your headlight next to the filter side (providing you know its fueling enough)

David.

Postage to me kills it though. It could be done none the less.

Anything else, ditching the wheels in favour of steels, keeping the brakes little to reduce weight etc?

Edit: Just saw Dave's reply.

Am I better off using smaller or bigger wheels?

Southie
27-06-10, 11:41 PM
Eat less pies lol

Edit: Just noticed but what ecu are you running?

david dixon
27-06-10, 11:41 PM
yeah find some thin 14" steels for the rear and blow them up to their max pressure, small front brakes, passenger seat out etc

David.

No, flames ones are actually decent, 3mm alloy iirc. The ones on ebay arnt too bad but for the price, no thank you!

I can source a set of 15" steels. The car is still on 1200 brakes and I can forget about the rear discs for the moment.

They need to be daily cars so loosing the passenger side seat etc are a no no.

Get the circular saw out pretty much anywhere that's not structural as well, bumpers mainly lol

burgo
28-06-10, 12:59 AM
its a crap job but loosing all the sound deadening will help

Dod
28-06-10, 09:03 AM
Top Job. The front and rear bumpers dont have carriers fitted (hense the broken headlight) as for the Circular saw, again, it needs to be a Road car and so have Tax and Test so its probably better off leaving the majority of it in. The Sound deadening is a mare on Corsas as its so well put on but the front seats will be coming out anyway so it'll be a goer. With that the underlay can go as well, weighs a ton!

What gearbox are you running because most running these engines convert to a f13cr and run the gte nova flywheel and clutch but this makes also a lot of difference for the revs, those pot flywheels are mahoooosive lol

Dod
28-06-10, 11:46 AM
Theres a thought actually. Its F15 but I do have an F13 CR here needing a diff but that could be stolen from the F15.

Wont the F15 boxes work with the GTE Flywheel?

AlexW
28-06-10, 11:52 AM
F15 would work with flat fly yes, remember your need a new clutch

Will F

not the best engine to 'shock' people, as they are pretty flat without the inlet fettle!

The torque is the problem - and how its delivered... No help to you sorry! lol

i ran a 15.8 1/4 in my c16xe nova its got a powerbox and 4 branch, Full interior, Road tyres 15"

Dod

Thats pretty impressive mate, I'd be 2/3s of the way to having a 10 second car.

Adam

Standard x16xe will do low to mid 16s.

Cant remeber the exact time, but i got around 15.5-15.7 in mine, with a powerbox etc etc fitted.

Dod
28-06-10, 10:41 PM
Mine is very very quick, in fact faster than my GSi Cavs. The engine came from a cut and shut motor so I dont have a proper spec on it other than the chip but it is very very revvy!

AlexW
28-06-10, 10:42 PM
Might have a flat flywheel on it, my 1400xe seemed much faster than my 1600xe

Dod
28-06-10, 10:44 PM
TBH, I wouldnt be surprised to see a set of cams in it.

Plug

im still running the pot flywheel but it still seems really revvy.

Ste ran a 15.5 i think in his standard x16xe with the EGR all blanked off at pod. that was the time i was trying to beat lol

Adam
28-06-10, 10:53 PM
Ste's must be a very good 1/4 driver though.
Thats a mint time for a standard x16xe

Dod
28-06-10, 10:57 PM
Does blocking the EGR give any power gains?

Adam
28-06-10, 11:00 PM

WOW!!

I've got Recaro SPGs to go into it and they only weigh 5kg each.

Ok, my aim is 15 seconds which is a pretty reasonable goal I reckon.

Should of been well happy seeing as GSi's do like 16ish secs.
And 16v only has about 8-10hp up on a gsi.... lol

I thought the engine was in a corsa for some reason!?

In a Nova it will go OK, but a 15 (flat) is quite unlikely with a std engine... Mid-high 15 would be the aim imo

Dod
29-06-10, 09:26 AM
Yeah it is in a Corsa, the SPGs were origionally in my Nova SX but its been re interiored so they're taking up space.

As for standard, I honestly doubt it is. Its hugely fast and impressive, moreso than any other 16 16v Corsa I've come on.

When was this, at PVS this yr?

That is a great time... my 1st drag day in the X16 loon on Sat, would be happy with anything under 16 dead tbh!

milko96
29-06-10, 10:52 PM
X16XE, cone filter, Ashley exhaust system, Single V pulleys and GTE flywheel, no pas or aircon obviously, its in a Mk1 2dr loon no rear seats running 195.45.14's, this makes it really short geared, about 110 on the limiter in 5th...
