Welcome to the club :thumb:
Get yourself a 325 inlet manifold, some evo top mounts (fit them on opposite sides for improved castor/camber) and some 330 brakes and you're laughing. Of course I've noty done any of these because I'm a lazy git, still managed to keep up/overtake modified Focus RS, 'burg VXR, 200SX, coupe turbo, teg R etc at Silverstone ;) You just can't beat the Ultimate Driving Machine lol
Mine regularly returns 30+mpg with mixed driving. As chav as it sounds I'd recommend getting a cone filter, just for the noise of the straight six howl at about 4krpm

Looks like quite a few of us lot secretly love our beemers :)

E30 M40B16 with well over 200k miles here... the build quality, even for a relatively simple 20 year old BMW, amazes me no end. In my opinion it's built miles better than a Nova (which I dearly love, mind). 99% of all spares are still available, even shells. Bonus! Too bad E30's can rust too... oh well, can't have it all I guess.

Baxter, enjoy your double vanos engined driving mersheene!

Sounds like you're having a lot of fun with it lol

If you need any parts for that engine iv got a full one sat in my garage with a suspected cracked head waiting to be stripped and weighed in.

I agree with the noise. My 325 has a scorpion backbox with decat and its unreal tbh, such a lovely sound especailly when the vanos kicks in yo.

Yes and no... here's what Wikipedia has to say about M52 engines:

The BMW (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW) M52 is a Straight 6 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straight_6) piston engine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piston_engine). Displacement ranges from 2000 cc to 3200 cc. It is a DOHC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOHC) 24-valve engine, originally introduced with VANOS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VANOS) Variable Valve Timing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variable_Valve_Timing). It replaced the BMW M50 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M50) engine in 1994 and was replaced in 2001 with the BMW M54 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M54) engine. The world market engine used Nikasil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikasil) lined aluminium cylinders instead of a cast iron sleeves used in the American market engine. The reason for this is Nikasil is eroded by the higher sulfur content fuel used in America.
In markets with low-sulfur fuel this engine was very highly regarded and the M52 was on the Ward's 10 Best Engines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ward%27s_10_Best_Engines) list for 1995 through to 1998. However, there was criticism of the M52 engine in some markets, especially the UK, which had high levels of sulfur in the petrol during the late 90's. Sulfur acts as a corrosive agent against Nikasil and led to a lot of the early engines having premature bore-liner wear. Fortunately this problem was solved in post-September 1998 cars with the introduction of steel cylinder liners, with the designation M52 TU-3. However problems are still present in these engines so affected cars of this period should be bought with caution unless the service history verifies that work was carried out to rectify the problem. The American market M52 used iron sleeves from the beginning, and so, was unaffected by this problem.
A Technical Update or M52TU version in 1999 added Double-VANOS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VANOS) and other modifications.
In the case of Baxter... the valve cover made me think "double vanos" but I'm not sure now. Never mind, single or double vanos, it's got more valves than most of our motors have.
