they will beat germany 4-1 (providing defoe startslol) but can't see them beating argentina:d
L33 LEG
27-06-10, 12:23 PM
Doesnt matter what we do, we won't beat argentina and brazil in the next rounds lol
TBH i think Brazil and the Argies look beatable, Greece shut the argies out for 85mins and were soi negative going forward, Portugal and Brazil should give every paying person who enetered the ground the other there moneyback as was a dismal display!

Tbf having watched all of the games so far i think any team is beatable. However teams will start to play at their best seen as its the knockout stages and against other decent teams.
It's a shame we didnt top the group because that half of the competition is such an easy list of games up until the final. In our half we have to share it with germany, argentina, spain, portugal and brazil iirc! I suppose at least we get decent games to watch rather than playing teams like ghana.
TBH i think thats done us a favour as we always seem to up our game agianst the better opposition and i would rather win the world cup having beaten the best teams and no the likes of chile or ghana!

Ye i totally agree with that. At least if we do lose against germany or in the next round at least it's nothing to be embarrassed about.

I have no real interest in football, just have bets on Germany to win 3-2 and Podolski to score first.
Whether you care about football or not, surely you would want you country to go as far as possible in any event?
I don't GAF about tennis, bowls, curling, figure skating etc etc etc but I still want my country to triumph!
I am thinking 2-1 England also. No idea on scorers though. Should have been Darren Bent. ;) lol

Like said by the commentator, Lawro maybe? It's good they didn't get the chance to 5-1 us. :( lol
Capello's post match interview was fukkin embarassing, she could have asked if he was a sh1tstabber and he would have said, yeah well at 2-1 2-2 we play well.lol lol

In football maybe, but England are pretty good at other stuff.
It does make me laugh how, as a nation, we're football mad. Yet when it comes to playing it, we're sh!t (internationally, anyway). We're better at Cricket and Rugby, but they don't get the country in quite such a fever?
Maybe its time to change our national "favourite" sport. Heck, we're damned fine rowers!

england only played for 15 mins from 30 - 45 we carnt argue we were shocking and a manager who said he would only take inform players and play them in there natural positions again failed too do so
heskey had played 1 game in 3 months barry was injured and king has a constant sick note
then the selection. gerrard never has and never will be a left winger when will an england manager be brave and cut either lampard or gerrard look at spain fabergas cant get in the side due to the coach knowing they need balence, i thought capello was the man for the job but come the big games he reverted to the same system as sven and mclaren thats proven not to work
yes the players were poor but so were the tactics and selection throughout the world cup not just this game
always said the job should go to an englishman capelo out and half the squad and rednap in for me

Terrible performance. Saying that as a football fan, not a scotsman! Would actually like to see England do well, i just couldn't handle the media if they did! But they have been pathetic this world cup, i expected a lot more from them. Didn't even deserve to get past the group stages in my opinion.
On paper the team is outstanding. But they lacked heart and determination. Not one of the players looked like they were interested at any point during the world cup.

28-06-10, 12:17 AM
For the next World Cup let Englands squad have NON premiership players playing, I bet they'd be even more proud and tbh it couldn't of been any worse a game than the utter shiit they called football today.
As always too much expection on a side which was basically all played out of position and well basically was identical to 4 years ago anyway
It's a shame really though all in all as I was enjoying going to the pub again when there all full, rather than being like ghost towns lol
we have a fundamental problem with our game & it goes back to schoolboy level. they play them on full size pitches aged 11 so they always pick the big kids who can run like hell, and goalies that can kick long distances... so by the time these kids are old enough to play professionally, they only know the long game.....
look at all other countries & you will find kids practicing ball skills, and playing properly from an early age..
then you look at british pro players. they have spent most of their childhood under contract to big clubs, and they don't really bother to push their education because they know what job they will have, so a lot of them are just not big thinkers.. they react, and don't anticipate.
so we will turn up in poland in 2 years & this crap will start again, but capello will have been paid off & some english sacrificial lamb will be the new coach
Southie
28-06-10, 08:42 AM
& some english sacrificial lamb will be the new coach
Beckham probably.
beckham is commited to the sport & england, but he isn't stupid enough to be coach.... everyone is shouting harry redknapp, but he isn't daft enough either
blue_peg_16v
28-06-10, 09:24 AM
if capello goes i can see roy hodgson geting the job but would prefer redknapp
NO ONE will want the job.
Who's going to want to do it when the players don't want perform ?
blue_peg_16v
28-06-10, 10:42 AM
football managers have very big egos and beleive they can turn things around, they wont look at past performance they will look at future sucess and hodgson would jump at it imo
if they looked at history know one would want the real madrid job as they sack managers all the time but yet managers still jump nat the chance
why not have a group of managers, former players, even fans etc to actually have a conference to sort out our glaring deficiencies, and hammer out a way forward. the FA, apart from sir trevor brooking, is run badly by people who have never been paid a quid to play the game, they know how to make money & nothing else.
Southie

An England fan forum where squads are chosen by a poll and previous players can do the on field tactics, then real fans/supports get a say in this nonsence that's England "so called" football quality and we could then stop blaming the damn managers all the time IMO.
Really tho if seenial Sepp Blatter was not in charge of FIFA there would of been technology in place to say it was 2-2, then england wouldn't have had to chase the game.
Defence was crap tho.
please Edd, we were hoplessly outclassed by better organised opposition. nothing more nothing less..
old step ladder has got a valid point on the technology, the refs decision is final. always has been, always should be. as soon as the first bit of technology pops up, then suddenly its like rugby union & american football where the whole thing stops for an age so they can sort out the outcome of a decision...
the only sport it seems to help is tennis, but then the players only have a set number of requests per game.
L33 LEG
28-06-10, 12:07 PM
I have never and never will want technology to help with decisions. You lose some and win some, it's just the way the game is and should stay like that.
England didnt deserve to win and that was all that mattered. IMO we need a whole new squad, get rid of the big name players who have proved once again can't win anything and get some new and young talent in.
An English manager would help but im not one for wanting managers sacked time and time again. However i wouldnt mind stuart pearce getting the job seen as he obviously has some heart for England and could see him there for a while and not just a tournament.
Anyway there's some good games coming up so it's not the end of the cup.
pearce looked like he was ready to stick a pair of boots on yesterday & show them what to do......you could see the pain in his face... and he has been doing great things with the under 21 squad... but we need a complete stripdown & rebuild of the whole english fa, which is pretty much what the french did in the 90's then won the world cup... but they lost interest more recently though
L33 LEG
28-06-10, 12:18 PM
We do need to start from scratch but it's not going to happen. Pearce would be my choice though as he is only young and has done an amazing job already and will obviously bring in the young players from the U21s.
Im not sure how much they get paid for a world cup but i would cut it so players are actually playing for the country and not for the money. (However im not one of those people who disagree with the 100k a week wages from clubs).

28-06-10, 12:22 PM
No revenge necessary. IMO we are an utterly sh*t squad made up of overpaid posers.
IMo the FA should make a ruling that anyone playing professional football in the premier league is not entitled to play in the national team. I bet a team of dedicated british athletes, trained to play football could kick our current squads a$$.
Football sucks though anyway, I'll never lose sleep over it.
IGNORE THE WAGES.... LINK (http://uk.reuters.com/article/idUKL0832743320070609)
^ I was under the impression the players don't get paid for international games? Or if they do, it was some trivial amount that pales in comparison to the club wage packet.
Anyway, re: the technology argument, this clearly shows its required. All it would have taken was a couple of seconds for a fourth official to check the footage and report to the ref on-pitch. Seen as the ball had a moment of not being played, i.e. when Neuer grabbed the ball, it would have been an opportune moment to pause play if required.
Doesn't matter whether or not it would have helped England on Sunday, but what happens when it does become the deciding factor in a game? What happens when a team gets knocked out because of a phantom goal?
people are also forgetting the 66 final phantom goal, where we were awarded a goal that really didn't go in...........
i'm not sure about the technology & then the potential failure of it, but putting a 5th official in front of the tv, or maybe a panel of judges, like in boxing... because there are hundreds of hangers on etc round these matches for the hospitality etc.... even the big screen at the stadium was showing it........

pearce for manager, beckham for assistant. scrap the team and 4-4-2. it doesnt work. cap the amount of foreign players in the prem league, germany did this 10 years ago, now thwy have lots of homegrown talent. the fa and fifa need a big shake up, and the best thing to happen to step ladder is a rough dose of aids. harsh but truem, the man is holding football back.
proper football to be taught in schools, as mowgli says, the long ball is dead. do that lot, and more and in 10 years we will bring it home.

cant cap eu players though and there are new rules coming into the premier league were there has to be a certain amount of home grown players, but that dosent mean they will be english as the rule is that to qualify as home grown you must of trained in england for 3 years before your 21 so thats most of the arsnal squad lol
the germany team is full of poles & turks............and an african
the home grown thing is illegal under european law

but it has been agreed by premier league clubs and comes in next year
and it will then be spat back out just as soon as some new rising star appears..........it simply is unconstitutional.
