What happens if you lose the locking nuts?

how do you get them off?

you mean the locking nut key?

it depends what type it is. if its halfords u can get them to get u a new key for about ?10.
some u can get off using a special tool, other wise a hammer+chisel-like tool can be used to remove it

try tour best to get a key made or get a new one otherwise you will end up destroying them hammering them off or cutting them up.

hammer a socket over it then undo it works for me

There not halford ones that is what real fucked me over.

Step 1:select the socket that is either just to big/small then place over the nut.
Step 2: take hammer and beat nut shitless untill socket fits snugly around nut
Step 3: undo as normal

through set of locking nuts and socket set in the bin as they are now rendered useless :lol:

One method we use at work that works every time is
Loose the other wheel nuts so that they r just finger tight
Drive up and down the road/car park accelerating and braking hard
ie. wheel spin/stamp on brakes/wheel spin/stamp on brakes etc
Due to the other bolts being loose and the 'shocking' of the alloy with your wreckless driving the locking wheel bolt will work itself loose !!!!

Just don't keep doing this method until all the loose bolts fall out - otherwise the obvious will happen - Wheel fall off !!!!

find an old wheel nut, chop the thread off it then weld it on to the stuck bolt if you can then undo as normal

mike let me have the number for halfords coz mine broke the other day, i think the bloke gave me the wrong ones coz when i put them in the wheels they were tight and i think they screwed the thread up! so i dont know what to do now :(
