View Full Version : Light flywheel... worth the money?
I've got a flat type on my XE so about 6.5kg and the ones autosprint sell are about 4.5kg.
So, are they worth the money, will there be a noticeable difference?
Cheers
a lighted flywheel lets the engine rev up faster .
Imo, no, if you was going from a pot to a "lightweight" one then yeah.
What is the car used for though?

Yes if it's there's a big difference in weight! They help the engine run more freely and as said let it rev quicker (depending on how much lighter it is) if there's loads of weight removed then it also decreases brake pad wear since there's more efficient engine braking:) but that's geeky!lol

It only cost me £35 to have my early XE flywheel lightened and balanced by a engine builder near me. Surely you could just take your flywheel to your local machinist or engine builder?

In my opinion I don't see the sense in having the flywheel lightened and balanced (which they will do when lightening it) and then bolting it upto a standard unbalanced bottom end, seems a waste of time if everything else isn't balanced up to work in conjunction with it to achieve the best results
