ive test fitted one of my new pistons, & Ive got about 20 thou of piston sticking out the top of the block on tdc the head has been skimed & the block has been faced aswell. ive got a standard vauxhall head gasket which is 45 thou is this likley to be enough? im not sure myself, where can i get a thicker good quality gasket from? anyone else had similar problem & how did you over come it.

I've just done this myself. Using the same pistons as you too I think (Autosprint flat tops?). I had 0.4mm out the top of the block.

I went for a 1.5mm compressed thickness Cometic gasket - you can get them in various thicknesses up to around 2mm.

It was from eBay, about £110. I've got the head on and turned it over with no contact although not had it running yet.

geoff at autosprint done it for me, when i picked up the bits he said he had skimed it for me because it was out slightly & it had a few heavy scraches aswell.
