1.0 > 1.4 Sr

ola,
just purchased a 1.4 sr engine to put into my 1.0 nova
is there anything i need to change or is it a straight swap ?

both engines are carb for people who didnt know :thumb:

Their is a return on the other carbed engines but just T piece onto the feed.

the resistive wire from the ign switch to the coil (clear coated) will need swapping for a normal wire... or it won't spark.

rh engine mount, the gearbox casings are different so you'll need to fit the 1.4 box. if it is a 5 speed, then the linkage in the bottom of the gearstick needs modding.

also make sure you have the complete engine /coil / loom from the 1.4

mark, just run the coil feed from the reverse light black/white mate. o/s mount to change, use the 1.4 box, use the 1.0 shafts. the 1.2 and bigger tanks have a return, but i'd just blank it like your dads escort. you need the dizzy/coil loom off the 1.4.

i had this problem put a 1.4 sr lump in my car and it ran with no return for the tank ? i was running a 32/34 :D

and as for the mount any nova one 1.2 upwards will fit except derv :thumb:

So

Blank the return feed off
Run the wiring for the coil from the reverse switch
and any nova engine mount above a 1.0 will fit, so a 1.2 spi 1.4 sr ECT

Thats just a white plastic lug on the bottom of the gear lever shaft. You'll see it when you take the gaitor off - it stops the lever moving over far enough to select 5th. Just chop it off.

I say run a switched live from the wiper motors purple wire. Far neater.

Also, that "plastic" lug, is aluminium inside, I got riggy to cut mine with a baby hacksaw, as im a lazy fukker and rather see him get annoyed with it than me lol.

will be declared soon as engine is in, its cheaper for me to insure a 1.4 than a 1.0, dont ask me why lol.

its best to remove the lever to cut the lug off. lift up the gaiter and undo the two 13mm nuts on the bottom and the lever lifts out then :)

Mine on the 1.6 didn't need cutting, as you pushed it across to 5th it caught one of the angles on the chassis, and pushed it down enough to go in lol

i found when i put my corsa sport engine in my 1.0 nova it went into 5th and i didnt chop anything and i didnt push down to get it into 5 either....i found the gears quite close tho...:S maybie my car is just a 1 off lol...:L
