my mate recons thats that he did 120mph in his 1.2 corsa, surley this can't be true? i checked in max power and a corsa 1.4sri's top speed is 112mph, but then again i did 109mph in my 1.2i with no mods and there only meant to do 89mph!

i always used to rip on him saying the 'i' made my car far Superior , please tell me he's chattin shit

The speed displayed is not the actual speed. It loses accuracy as it gets higher.

Possible that he saw that (plus added an extra 5mph as a little embelishment) come on the speedo. Going down hill. With the wind behind him.

and of course max power are the most accurate source of data

i have had 105 out of my 1.3 sr i know its capble out of a sr but i doubt it was acurate as i got 195/50/15 tyers or is that more acurate than 13" steel wheels plus i was facing wind

We had a 1.2 16v corsa (new shape) courtesy car when my brother wrote off his car, we thrashed the thing into an inch of its life and we could only get 102mph out of it, it would do 80 in third but would not do anything like 120mph.

Anton- 25mph is too much of a difference for 17"s 10-15 would be a lot but there is something wrong there.

i shall be calibrating my speedo with a gps unit (accurate to 0.1 mph)

appart from beng raped byt the MOT to calibrate it youve got no other way really, unless you do it from the rev counter and lots of maths for the greas, whel diameter etc

thats wot i thought is that a standered 1300 sr or have u modded the engine

erm technically the power/mods dont dictate the speed (unless its at the very aerodynamic limit of the power= drag)

its the rpm of the engine and a product of the gearbox and overall wheel/tyre diameter that governs max speed in this case

and how fast you are pedalling

ive had 100 indicated (on digidash) in my 1.2i saloon downhill with wind behind me in the slipstream of an impreza

checked the RPMs against the gear ratios and tire size and it was within about 4%

cant have seen it goin much faster

but it does 90 easily enough on a flat with no wind

ive had 114 indicated on my digidash, but i knew my breaks werent upto much and was approaching bend on the motorway so didnt wanna risk not seeing something and hitting it.

dont think there was much left in the engine (standard 1.6 at that time)

probly better now the 32 34 is on

Got 105ish in my 1.3SR and since also an indicated 120 in my GTE. Shame the clocks are so far out. My mate-who I was feckin about at the time is his Sirocco showed less than 105! Thats what an old speedo and 195/45tyres do for ya. :?
