well not been around for a while and i thought i would pop this up as its my sons project

due to my son looking for a project he got the go ahead from his mum we set about looking for something he can pull appart and not have to worry if it
doesnt see the road again for a while, so we kept our eye out looking for a nova or corsa that we could get on the cheap .
A few came up but due to where they were it was looking near on inpossible to get a car that we could get back untill one came along which was taxed and mot'd but with no pictures and a very brief out lay of a description and with a buy it now of £225, So with fingers crossed we brought it as it was only in leek which is not far it was easy to get it back as it was road legal.

so on tuesday night we hit the road to pick up this car that we had not even seen a picture of, It does need work but it is 19 years old !
here is what we have done to it so far !

yep shes a nova saloon 4 door (1.0) now you either like them or you dont and most people do the 3 door ones but we are going to be diffrent,
now she does have some rot but in due time its going to be stripped down to a shell and all sorted out i will keep it updated so you can see how he is getting on with it

also is there anyone else on here who have done 4 door novas and could you point me towards them please

cheers !

some of nice four door five doors on here. used to have a 4 door saloon myself. was rottern in exactly the same place around the fuel cap. you can still pick up a 5 door rear panel fmo hadrians that will include the petrol cap piece with it. and it fits okay. but good luck with it

Something different, nice! Don't see many more door loons being tinkered with so keen to see how this comes out.

I was about 15 when my dad offered me the Nova, which I have owned to this day (I'm 26 btw lol). I've only recently started a project myself.

Get him to have a good look on here so he gets ideas of how he wants it. Should be a great learning curve for him.

Keep up the work, looking forward to seeing this when finished. :thumb:

Fairly getting on with stripping the car down. I had a C reg 4 door saloon, was lowered on coilovers with Manta GTE wheels and MK1 SR interior. Clean and simple is the best approach.

cheers guys its getting there now once its off the ground and the rest of it is removed it will be body work time i hopfully will pick some bits up from billing ie wings front panel and any thing else that comes in hand we are still not sure what lump to put in it yet there has been a few ideas knocking around but thats last of the worries. as is the colour scheme i think he knows what colour he wants but the thing is most of the painter aound here are not the best so it might have to go on its travels to be painted.

i would rather him be on the drive way playing with this then running wild around the streets (and mark can vouch for that lol ) now due to rain i dont think any more will be done tonight unless its just a shower ! grrrrrrrrrrr

If you got time you could make a jig so you can turn the car upside down on its side etc would make life a lot easyer for any jobs that need doing on the floor its a pain in the ass on your back especialy if your painting the floor im making one for next year i will use 2 engine stands and modify were needed.
Weld would have to be good.
Excelent progress so far mate keep it up.

cheers guys, as for engine and stuff we are going to go look at a c16xe complete today its from a corsa gsi its all there including the gear box its come up at the right price, we did think about a v6,xe,xev but decided as its my first project and to go for some thing smaller and easyer to fit /strip/ rebuild if needs be !

as the weather has not been the best the nova now is in the garage so it had to come off the stands but hopfully it will be going up in the air again soon !

one of our friends has brought a nova with loads of spares so off we went to see what he had and came back with loads of bits which had been my dads when he had his novo project.

to get back into things as im still recovering from my shoulder my mate came and gave me a hand with the rear beam as my dad left me with some power tools we set about cleaning the beam and giving it a coat of primer and then some paint, Once we had painted every thing it was time to fit the disc set up on the back beam my dad took me to work where he made some new brake pipes for it.
here are some pics

tidy disc conversion. how was hard it to convert?

16v-kev
29-08-10, 12:26 PM
well this one was a little tricky because the set up was from a cav with abs so the back of hub had to be ajusted if you find the non abs set up its a easy fit there is a how to on here about fitting discs to the rear beam it takes a little time but its more for looks and a better hand brake and easyer to maintain then rear drums, If you find a complete rear beam from a cavalier its has everything you need to convert your beam

well a quick update

as the nova is in the garage we needed to turn it around so we could do more work on the front end after spinning it around it was time for a quick pic of it

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/c20letboy/0012-1.jpg

so back in the garage and the front was attacked all joints cleaned ready for welding and a few little plates needed putting in but due to the battery tray has been repaired once before it needs a new panel in there as its too far gone to try and save !

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/c20letboy/0083.jpg

so once we get a battery tray panel we will be cracking on with it again !

13-08-11, 10:45 PM
well after restarting the nova the first problem we came across was after tacking a a plate we ran out of wire ! so it was off to machine mart where i picked up another 5kg real of wire so on friday night chris got stuck in and all was going well until we ran out of gas  now sitting next to me was a big bottle of gas but we didnt have a reg to fit it, so we were up early saturday and we had a drive around looking for one but due t boc was shut we headed home but on the way i poped into my mates house who happen to have one  so it was back home to try and get the o/s/f leg looking a little better.
so we did a few more place's with the stich welding and mulled over about what engine we were going to fit as we have been offerd a x25xe (well complete car) so we would have everything we needed but i think a xe would be better to fit and easyer
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/c20letboy/001-1.jpg
once the plate was in i had a quick look under the strut top only to find that there was a big hole behind the crumple zone so out came the drill and we removed the panel to be met with a big hole lol
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/c20letboy/0044.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/c20letboy/0055.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/c20letboy/0093.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/c20letboy/0103.jpg
so once we had sored the hole and refitted the panel we then had a look at the out rigger
and started on that
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/c20letboy/0122.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/c20letboy/0112.jpg

well a update with pictures lol

We decided to fit the engine loom into the car and see where we can mount the ecu plus we needed to sort out the coolant temp wire, oil pressure wire, rev counter (due to it being a 1ltr it doesnt have a rev counter wire into the clocks) also a ecu light and sort a diag plug so we can read anycodes it might throw up, Also we needed to sort out some water pipes due to it being a 1ltr we can not use the old rad (will be putting up a wanted thread soon )so once the pipe work was sorted we moved onto the loom we cut a hole into the bulk head threaded that through and started to wire up the clocks making sure we had everything working now due to we want the loom to be removable ive bought some wiring plugs off ebay

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/c20letboy/IMAG0110-1.jpg

Not the best pic but you get the idea lol
so with the wiring sorted and tested we were happy with the results so far
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/c20letboy/IMAG0119-1.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/c20letboy/IMAG0120-1.jpg

We then started on the light making sure we had all new bulbs for the head lamps side lights brake light and indicators found we were missing a side light bulb holder and the number plate light ! im sure they are around some where
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/c20letboy/IMAG0121-1.jpg

After that we decided to under seal the front panel as my son got some paint but it was the wrong shade so its been stone chipped black for the min
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/c20letboy/IMAG0114-1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/c20letboy/IMAG0116-1.jpg

So thats how it stands at the mo once its fully running and movable we will start on the rear end, The only reason we have started putting it back together is to make sure that the engine(as we didnt hear it running ) and everything else works moves and stops and starts once its all been done it will be stripped back down and paint work will start on the items fitted aswell as the shell
