i'm assuming you've already got the engine pretty well modified????? cos with the stock manifolds junked & with bodies & a decent exhaust, the stock head will actually do some decent hp.

Sweet, I'm looking at getting a p&p done too, was thinking of using Jamie D on mig but its best to ask about.

the engine is running kms engine management, mod air filter and big bore powerflow s/s exhaust, i plan to put one of those manzel rep intake manifolds on and an uprated exhaust manifold, kent cams and pulleys and the head work all in one go (also change belts and fit sbd steel rollers), i should see 140bhp??

i'd expect it to make more than 140 without porting.. i read about a rally team in desperation sticking a stock 16xe in with bodies & comp exhaust & made 201hp with nothing more than arp rod bolts

Brosters old 1.6 engine made 190bhpish without headwork..

tbh if you are getting 16V head work done, you might aswell get bigger valves put in, which will mean piston mods etc.

higher lift cams alone require the pockets deepening so bigger valves deffinetly will.

i found a convo i had with steven gault along time ago and we were discussing baby valvers, he said no way could brosters make that power on the spec in his opinion

i'll see if i still have the article about the rally xe, it was in CCC mag a very long time ago

201 BHP from just bodies and exhaust system on a 1.6 16v? SBD only quote a 50 BHP gain with throttle bodies and exhaust system on a C20XE iirc, that 1.6 has gained nearly 100, am I reading that right?

iirc the engine made stupid power from the factory, thats why they stuck that stupid inlet on it to de tune it a little

i remember reading it. originally designed, the 16xe produced 150 hp, then the emissions laws changed & they ended up really stifling it

Iirc they were worried the 1600 would be faster than the 2.0 so chocked it on the inlet, S1600 corsa C made about 240 bhp!

Yeah that's right, the C16 was something like 140-150 bhp and as said had to be restricted, so simply de-restricting it can help unleash some decent power without other mods?

djbrowney

no use if the map on the ecu is then mapped to the restricted inlet ect ect ect

if only it was that simple lol

A 1600xe turbo with a good inlet and aftermarket ecu should make really good figures, but nobody does it as it's easier to stick in a LET!

but no doubt he could build one with no head mods though  lol
