They will be fine! I used standard lifters on my ast2 equipped 1300 and it was fine. What i have found is if you are using a 1600 8v engine you will need uprated valve springs.

Is an AST2 a fast road or rally/race type cam?

AST1 is fast road so one up from that, so should be road/rally

You going to run 40s?

maybe but more than likely will run a twin-choke as per road rally regulations. but only going to be doing clubman stuff so regs may not apply in which case 40s will be the way forward

I see, not sure how the ast2 will perform on a twin choke carb, they are well suited to 40s, should be ok though if you get it set up on the rollers.

oh yeh gona get it done properly. ideally if funds allow id like a high-comp 1400 hybrid with a worked head. twin choke should still work well, especially the Weber 32/34

AST2 is a 'lazy' but grunty cam... no need to rev above 7250, on a well setup 1.6 with T40's it will pull from 30mph in 5th to the limiter cleanly :)

I had a 1300 with the enem cam out of a sport on a 32/36dgav revved very well.
