Guys i'm lying in bed and came up with that random question that i used to ask myself from time to time when i first got into novas. Just curious to see what your views are on it. Question: if the mk1 was never made and only designed the mk2 would you have got into them as an alternative or would you have got into something else, given the fact that its similar looking bar the bumpers, face lift, spoiler etc. I doubt i would have been into novas at all. If that was the case i think i would have prob gone for something like an xr2. Sorry for all you mk2ers as the title says, this one ain't for you. :-)
i was, am and will always be a mk1 man. i think of the mk1 as the original & the mk2 the sequel... not as good but cashing in again
but if there wasnt a mk1 nova there wouldnt have been a mk2 haha

hmm, i like mk2's but the mk1 SR did it for me, if it hadn't of been for the mk1 SR in flame red, grey bumpers, grey spoiler and vinyl i wouldn't be hooked

only mk1 for me
Mk1 has the proper styling, sharp with no colour coded blandness. The Mk2 was made to make it look like the other continental boxes but the original mk1 was to look different, and it did!!!

Only mk1 for me, but I think its totally choice.
Track cars look better as mk2's, just as there slightly more rounded.

I have more love for the mk1 look now, but I've owned both mk1 and mk2 in various versions and think they are both great.

mk1 for me too, i dont know why but if i had the choice of a mint mk2 or a rusty mk1 id take old rusty lol
I think of mk2 Novas as a totally different car. I don't like any of the low spec mk2 models, only the GSi and SRi. I would have either of those though if mk1s never were :thumb:
i only like mk1's in mustard yellow. and mk2's in nordic blue.

i started with a mk2, while that was in storage i replaced it for a mk1 gte, replaced that with a mk2, and turned my other mk2 into a mk1..
i'm kind of schizo i guess.

How could I forget, the closest thing that resembles the boxy mk1 nova is the mk1 golf, very good alernative.
Didnt like the fact that the xr2 was a carb and the fact that it was very thursty under heavy excelleration. Sh*te interior to go with it.
Thus would have been rs turbo engined with cossy snow flake rims. But saying that restored mk1 golf would have weighed more in terms of a good classic.

I've always thought this too, totally agree that they are different cars.
But yeah a gsi/sri on S-L alesso 2's looks nice, thats about it. ;)

Well I have a love of both shapes of nova and good memories of when driving my old MK1 and MK2.
To debate which I prefer well it's a hard question if either look like these examples:
MK1 PORN (Brettski)

MK2 MORE PORN (Benns)

^^ Definately two of the very best Novas at present ^^

Did you get that mixed up? lol
no :p
End of the day there both novas and each has its own good points, now if they started with the corsa B instead of the nova theres another story. lol

I loved mk2 Cav's & kinda got into Novas through being a Vauxhall nutter at a young age & appreciating that shape of car.
I dont see the mk2 as being unfaithfull to the original car, GM needed a couple more years from the Nova & it was just drawn again with the pencil they were using at the time, following on from the mk3 Cav influences & definately sharing bumper lines with the mk3 Astra & a similar dash material & switches.
Personally I always lusted after a GSi as they were the premium model & had the price tag in the used market. However a mk1 SR will always have a place in my heart as the core Nova model to be remembered.
comparing the 2 photos on the previous page id have to go for benn's
personnaly i think MK1's suit rally/track/competion cars as there more aggresive while a MK2 looks the better one on the road
I like both, I prefer the SR to the GTE though.
MK2 GSi is always gonna be a winner though.
