shane
is it a mk1 or mk2?
If youve got no splitter on the rear of the car chances are you wont need to cut it.
If you have (mk1) then thats alot thicker than a mk2 (small splitter is joined to bumper I think).
I'd recommend either a hacksaw or a round bladed saw (forget their actual names). Once cut out, smooth the edge using 120 grit wet n dry (dry) - this will remove the furry bits left.
To be honest if its a mk2, I dont think you'll need to cut it - I've got a magnex stainless rear back box and I didnt need to cut mine. mines also got the mk1 GTE splitter on it - I just needed to lower the exhaust by using tie backs through the rubber mounting.
