I've read many threads and they're all confusing. Most people say they are same ratios and final drive (I don't really fully understand final drive btw).

On my red Nova I have a F16, acceleration is very good and can easily drive around in 5th while doing 30mph.

But, in the new Nova I bought there is a F20, the car accelerates hard but the gears feel long  i.e. if you drive in 30 in 5th you can feel the car is labouring so have to drop back to 4th or 3rd.

The 30 in 5th comparison is just an example.

red nova = f16 = 3.72 final drive = ubber acceleration
new nov = f20 = 3.55 final drive = good at both acceleration and cruising etc
basically the higher the final drive the better acceleration
then the lower final drive will be better at the top but a tad slower at take off !

OK then.

Do the CR versions have any difference to the original?

For example, is there any difference between F16 / F16CR and F20 / F20CR.

i believe the number relates to how many minutes they last with baxter driving.

i did once read that gm wanted to improve their 0-60 times on the mk2 astra gte, & they did this by putting taller gears in it, so it could reach 60 in second gear, whereas it needed to be in third before with the shorter f16 box
