Right im a bit miffed at this new tax banding etc..

IF Ive got it right im better off buying a car that before march 2001, as after the tax goes up by about £40 more!

Help before i buy a 1.8 SRi mk4 Astra...

it's all based on emissions, so depends on the car, anything juicy is far better off in the old banding, difference for a veccy V6 is around the £300 a year mark iirc! Should be able to check the banding on parkers?

After 2001 it goes off emissions/co2 levels.

Before 2001 its just a fixed rate for engine size.

You MIGHT be better off buying 2001 on car, depending on what emissions level a mk4 puts out

That new april 2010 one is nuts! I'd want one of those tax disc stickers about the potholes, except saying "I bent over and lubed up for this, and I'm still hitting fcuking potholes"

Theres a bit of small print that says it's just for the first year, so a grand tax on a new car then it drops to the bargain price of £450 a year.

edit: although that's not to say it won't become a rolling "just for the first two, er three, um maybe 4 then... til next year" thing

I dont care.......... in my eyes anything over £250 a year in tax is too much,as i killed two tires, and bent one of my 18's on the passat over the winter due to the crap condition of our roads.. sod this, im off to look at pre 72 cars..:thumb:

I can see the Torbrals government soon changing that, as most of their supporters will be toffs with landrovers

Rich, fuel still gathers the same rate of duty despite the recent price drops (it'll be going up again soon btw)

I thought a 1.8 MK4 astra SRi was cheaper to tax in the new system.... (oh hang on its £30 a year more, hmmm it WAS cheaper I know that!

As I worked out the VX would go up £40 and the Astra down £40.. so net change of nothing lol

The VED bands are fairly easy once youve been looking at cars post 01 long enough :)

very handy site!
