Bought this in spring 2007 iirc.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/NovaTurboPink/14042007018.jpg

it was mot'd, taxed and on the road the whole of 2007 without any real problems. a few things i had to change, i mean alot more has been learnt about these conversions since 1995 when it was built. but on the whole it was all very goof and very low milage.

i then set about fitting the intercooler lower down into the bumper.
here it is with 75% of my nova collection

this was the car looking its best. the i.c.e was all sorted, everything running sweet.

but one day the clifford alarm gave in up the ghost. wouldnt have been a problem if i could have got parts, or if i could have easily removed it. it was some super duper alarm from back in the day, remote start, automatic headlamps, automatic wipers, total closure etc etc. the car would not start sometimes, alarm going off for no reason. at this point it came off the road to fit a new wiring loom...

as i started removing, i got deeper and deeper into it and ended up on a full on restore.

id previously sold the full cav turbo leather, speedlines, and fitted the engine into my red nova. so its now like a big jigsaw with missing pieces.

here is the car as it sat not long ago..

now the engine bay was rough, i stripped it all back to bare, strengthened, repaired, and stich welded it. i then smoothed the chassis rails and firewall out.

4 months on i decided it was about time i got some colour on it so that i can get it back on all 4s and begin the rebuild!
id left it in a glacier white base coat, all this needed was to be flatted back ready for the pink base.
so cleaned up and flatted back..

im happy with the finish ive achieved. the colour is different to the body work, but its a type of pink i prefer. looks more like the pink it was when featured in max power originally. the outside needs a blow over anyway to freshen up, this will be done in the same paint but in a booth.

Will be good to see this out again!!

Was so tempted to bid on it when it was on e-bay, but I could never work out if I loved or hated the fact it was pink!!!!

Never saw the appeal of this car tbh - probably down to the absolutely gash colour! lol

Fair play for sticking to the scheme though, have you got a disguise to wear whilst in transit? lol

This is the original pink nova iirc, there were quite a few pink followers but this always looked better,

Good luck with the rebulid :)

10-06-10, 11:54 AM
think this was the first courtenay fitted an actual let engine to previous to this they were all turbo'd xe's iirc

very nice would love to own this shame i lost my job when you were looking to sell was ready to rip your hand off lol

elgan
10-06-10, 12:36 PM
wouldnt be right now if it wasnt any colour but pink

correct whats been said above. this was the very first with a let opposed to a converted xe. built by a welsh bloke with courtenays assistance.

probably return as an xe this time tho, as this is what i have lying around

Sloth
10-06-10, 12:39 PM

Looks great, you really don't mess about!

Still got the purple GSI you had from me then? looks in much better shape in that pic than when it left me all bashed up from a silly theft attempt.

Can't wait to see more progress on this!

elgan
10-06-10, 02:16 PM
yeah scan them up!

yeah your gsi is still here paul. i think its going to be a donor for all the wiring into the pink one. the gsi is sat with an xe fitted and running at the moment. not on the road though. i see your back into a nova, if i can help you out with any bits let me know mate.

Good man for not getting rid Elgan.

It always was a bit love or hate because of the colour & spoilers & splitters, but it represents the roots of Novas when they were still only a few years old, the owner of this car must have been minted I reckon.

Anyway all the work looks top notch, shame its not a LET going back in but its only a blower FFS. XE's give less trouble anyway.

I'll need to rescan the rest of the feature but it should have the 1/4 mile times aswell

I've got 2 copies of the mag that was in. I cant locate my pic of it in photobucket. Too many albums LOL.

Chris Bow was the builder (cheque book writer?) of the car iirc.
I love the white SR on Alessio's (another LET) & the silver mk1 SR on the Mistrals. That is so sweet & subtle. Sorry Elgan.

heres smothing i need to adress now...

montery scoop.. keep it or remove? (will be keeping cossie vents)

zender rear spoiler.. keep or remove?

the front gsi bumper will have zafira slats fitted like on my red one, because of all the cutting for the old intercooler.

as i said above ive sold the allessios.. but do have a set of 5 irmscher softstar 16s in storage.

sport
10-06-10, 05:24 PM
I would keep it as close to original as possible.

blue_peg_16v
10-06-10, 05:40 PM
id keep the scoop but remove the zender and think id try to get an uncut gsi bumper but thats personal choice i never liked the zender spoiler

the 3rd pic on the first page is what id be going for that was my plan when i was looking at buying it, so wish i hadnt lost my job

Benn
10-06-10, 05:48 PM
Edit, having looked back at the pics, i'd remove the scoop.

Love the Zender spoiler tho...

Un cut bumper looks better too.

Edd

Zender spoiler is cool IMO, I get rid of the scoop tho.

Nice to see it's being rebuilt.

bazil

got a zender spolier here lol
Me too

I ripped mine of, IMO the zender looks great from a full side view but horrid at a full rear view.

blue_peg_16v
10-06-10, 06:21 PM
other option is to cut the zender down and use it in place of the gsi spoiler thats what phil did with his when he had a spoiler on it anyway,

dont like it as a lower spoiler makes it look like a push rail imo and i know all novas need one but still lol

Dan
10-06-10, 06:47 PM
hmmm i must be getting old, my views differ slightly.......

Never truly liked the zender spoiler even when it was the new thing to have so that would have to go.

As regards the bonnet, the only scoop to ever suit the nova was the monterey one. The profile always looked good on the car, for me i would probably keep that,
but thats the oldskool in me clinging on to one of the few good styling parts from that era which isnt seen much now.

I wouldnt expect any of you concourse, stream lined whipper snappers to understand :p lol lol lol lol lol

Sloth
10-06-10, 06:52 PM
actually i agree, rebuild it like it originally was would be best.

Spudly
10-06-10, 07:13 PM
Wow good to see it didnt sell and youre cracking on with restoring the old girl, definately keep the scoop as it suits sooo well and the spoiler is definately a marmite affair id say keep it if you want to be true the the original styling but personally wouldnt keep it myself if that makes any sense at all lol

elgan
10-06-10, 08:56 PM
original as in boot vinyl, no spoiler and no scoop then?

Benn
10-06-10, 09:00 PM
I like the pics on page 1, so keep the spoiler.

muzzy
10-06-10, 09:02 PM
Not keen on the spoiler but it is one of the things that make/made this car different. I guess it depends if you want to add your own touches or keep it as it was when first built.

Love the car though, one of the few pink cars I would happily drive lol

Spudly
10-06-10, 09:08 PM
Boot vinyl and no zender spoiler, but keep the scoop imo, it works and you could always use more fresh air in the bay lol
