the reason for posting is in some events my car is entering you are not allowed auxillary lighting

With regard to lights, a maximum of four forward facings beams and auxiliary lights are forbidden, even if standard fitment for that vehicle.

so my plan is to get a quad light grille and fit it with 4 hid units - as long as i can prove it was a factory option to have the quads i'll be fine.

For other events where auxillary lights are allowed i have 6 x 10" cibie torinis (4 in a pod and 2 on brackets)

As far as I know it wasn't a factory option, not in the UK anyway. I know there's all the Irmscher gubbins for Mk1s but not sure if this would be counted as factory options. Mark (Novacabrio) would know.

it was a hella part, wasn't it?????

as the mk2 have the adjustable light beam motors, can't you fit uprated bulbs & fiddle with the adjustment???

the grill wont be any good as they are classed as auxillary lights - which arent permitted even if fitted as standard, the only way round it is to fit quad lights - if they were a factory option as they are classed as headlamps and not auxillary lights

a friend of mine had a mk2 fully restored using almost all genuine GM parts, he had a twin headlight grille on it, will try pester for pictures!

It had 2 different size lights on it, almost golf mk2 style, larger on the outsite, smaller on the inners, the grille bar and lights were all one piece.

Have not seen the car for 8-9 years now though :(

The closest to a factory twin headlight kit is an Irmscher twin headlight conversion although it was a dealer fit option only.

Lol! I tend to find that when you're doing triple figures down country lanes you can't have enough light!
Hence the reason for me wanting to go to quad lights so I can run 4 4-5000k hid units, that will also have the bonus of dropping the current demand on the electrics

Have you got a pic of this?
Dealer fit options might be blaggable with uneducated scrutineers!

i am worried about any form of motorsport that involves 3 figure speeds at night without extra lights being fitted........... on country lanes... even though, i spent a lot of my teens & early twenties doing high speeds down country lanes with only 55w nova headlights...

what series is it???

stt

its a navifational scatter series,
basically you have 2 hours to plot and go to as many points as possible and then get back to the finish before the time is up
its run on VERY rural roads - which arent closed - so strictly speaking you shoudnt go above 60 - but this is the real world and its very competitive

Wish I lived close to you I'm actually pretty good at plotting and navigation

Most rural areas will have a scatter series, just contact your local motor club!

it might sound a bit 'heath robinson' but is there any way you could modify the back of the headlamps or even some 'clear' indicators & fit some of these in behind the main lens purely as auxhilary lighting..????
