rite then ass some of you may have seen my project track nova has been on the road for a few weeks now and done a track session at combe back in april, well this week on the way to work my x16xe started rattling its tits off, the noise is definatly a bottom end noise and tbh i cant be arsed with it throwing a rod.

So my question to you all is what are my options regarding 1.8 engines? now afaik but i may be wrong, i can use my same gearbox and shafts etc as now, same engine mounts etc. and its just wiring.

But which engine is better and easier?
x18xe1 from vectra or astra is there a difference,
or z18xe1 from astra?

also how much should i be looking to pay for one and wha wiring is involved with each is it the same as a basic xe or smallblock xe conversion?

Cheers
Ryan

You want the smallblock (obv) from a Vectra ideally. These will have 5 stud wheels not 4 stud like the bigblockers did. Same goes for the astras.

all shafts, gearbox and mounts bolt straight in pal, just a case of wiring and plumbing the new engine in

nice easy conversion then really, its either that or fit another 16xe and get a powerbox, which ever works out better power for money really

thats what i thought too lol i was looking at them a while ago and i think 350 for engine and box was about right. i wouldnt need the loom though as i would have run on carbs

are these engines fly by wire throttle or they run off a cable?

the Corsa one is fly-by-wire but the Vectra ones are cable and probably the Astra is too. The cable engine is the X18XE1 i think

cheapest way seems to be buy a vectra complete, use engine and break car making most of money back lol. gonna be on the look out for an engine then by the looks of it lol, hopefully before total vauxhall at combe
