try claning up the big earth on the gearbox, i've had a few starting issues all because of this 6" earth strap

1.2 starter motor will be capable of turning it over. Is your battery flat??

take starter motor out and and check its functioning properly, ie engaging and disengaging (not sticking or anything) then refit and try again

HMMM i don't think the 1.2 starter will fit the c16se? c16se has a larger flywheel than the 1.2 iirc.

thats correct but he said he had got it working before so i assumed this wasnt causing a problem. I also think thats only a problem if you are fitting a 1.2-1.4 flywheel to a 1.6 block as the starter motor hole is further out from the crank :thumb:

the flywheels are different size between the 1.6 and 1.2, I thought the starter motors were different to match them.

It therefore will work in reverse, starter from small flywheel'd car won't fit larger flywheel. :thumb:

why wouldn't it fit? The tooth size on the flywheel will be very similar so the starter will engage with it. As said the mounting hole is further out to compensate for the larger flywheel so the starters are probably the same. He had it working before so this would suggest it does work

Because it's spaced incorrectly!!! The starters are not interchangeable iirc.

Thread op, go and get a correct e/c 16se starter and try that. :)

i may be wrong but im going on the fact that he did have the car going with this combination so i assumed that any starter was compatible with the larger flywheel
