I have just sprayed my wings today. not to happy with the out come.

My paint code is 78L which is toscana red, Ive been told this is the same as burgundy red which is what i have sprayed them. problem is they are more a pinky red than burgundy & nothing like the colour on the car. I know the paint on my car is like 20years old but its not even close.

I used red primer & 2 coats of paint, should i put afew more coats on?

anyone else had this problem. :(

Is it rattle can paint you got ready mixed etc? If so, they are normally rubbish. Problem is that sometimes there can be many shades of that particular code, so even though it's 78L it may be a different shade of it.

i.e The gold on my car came with standard tint, green tint, yellow tint. Look similar when viewed seperately but totally different when next to each other.

Best to get it made up properly.

Burgundy red has 5 or 6 shades, ranging from more silver to more gold.

78L is its own code, so wont be the same as burgundy red, who evers told you that's a bellend.

Take the paint back.

annie, take all the numbers off your chassis plates. there is a paint code on it.

fiver says that colour is 79L, because some muppet in halfords told me it was flame red after he handed me it, so I looked up the colour code afterwards lol After asking him if that burgundy, really looked like something he'd call "flame red"

Thanks guys, Havnt alot of money so wanted to paint it as cheaply as poss, have now used a ford Burgundy red which is a very close match. Thanks for info red isnt the best colour to match lol got to look better than orange which was the colour they were (filler primer). :)

78 is Toscana Red, same colour as Nick's, (IIRC) Cooltigers and Novalad's old one.

79 is Magma Red (Flame Red)

72 is Marseille Red (Satin Red), a metallic

There is no "burgundy" red. The other ones to note are Mexico Red (71), Carmine Red (76) and Calypso Red (75)

Thanks Jack,

Seeing as you love the colour as much as I do, I mite have to put up the resto thread of my dads early MK3 Cav SRi (SEH) which is 71L. Should be seeing that go off for some bodywork and fresh paint (same guys that did my Nova (check my project thread)) probably by end of summer ;).

Gonna look lush with brand new 71L!
