paint query

Anyone have any idea's in the best way to clean engine and engine bay Also which is the best paint to use on an engine and gearbox????????

I just took mine down to the local steam cleaner at my local petrol station,its a fiver but well worth it imo then painted with silver smooth hammerite.

Did you get my message about indicators etc in your for sale thread?

so no need in giving it a rub down or any special primers ie etch???

not with hammerite it straight to metal etc but you might need to rub box down depending on its condition mate

put on with a paint brush then leave for 15-20 mins jet wash of then as w88rdy say smooth hammerite once there clean and rubbed down

another query about paint should i use special heat paint on the head? i should be ok painting the rest of engine with hammerite??

with regards to taking it to a steam cleaners at the petrol station.....make sure you cover vitals up so you can actually start it again lol

I'd personally paint with high temp paint anything thats too hot to touch when hot running, it would be the exhaust side of the head that would be the hottest part, so i would!

will i need to use etch primer on the engine ie head and gearbox before using hi temp paint and hammerite??

I used face paints on my gearbox.

Directions on the paint can will be the most reliable source of information.

it doesnt say about aliminium but i know that when using any other paint you have to apply etch primer first.
