This sceptred isle, the formerly Great Britain, has been leading the world in music ever since the beatles appeared.... we have a proud heritage of great songwriters & performers................ yet for a telly show watched by the whole of europe, we send some kid from essex into battle armed with a pete waterman song!!!!!! it was the crappest waterman style song ever, and 'stock, aitken & waterman' were the team behind Rick Astley, Pete Burns, early Kylie, jason donovan, sinita, that ginger scouse bird, etc, and they were crap in both the eighties & the nineties, luckily, they had not done anything in the new millenium, until that piece of musical diarrhoea that made us, as a nation look pathetic..........................

there should be an act of parliament or something that makes the best musical talent in the land be in charge of producing the next euro song...

lloyd webber did ok last year, but someone nearer the public taste is needed......personally i'd love to see a real act with their own instruments up on the stage

please discuss

I actually think it's quite sad that you're genuinely moaning about a rubbish performance on a crappy television program covering a meaningless competition. :)

Hes trying to still be Wogan who could say and get away with whatever he wanted.

but its still all crap at the end of the day. The UK could make the BEST song in the world EVER, and we still would do as badly since all the eastern european countries vote for eachother and its all just political bullsheets.

The Eurovision is just Britans got talent for the whole of Europe, just a fecking cod. We summed it up 2 years ago when we sent s Turkey Puppet as our entry to really take the piss.

Totally agree Mowgli.

We all know Eurovision is a load of tosh, but Mowgli is right. I was thinking the exact same thing last night. Had a few friend over just for a laugh, an excuse to have a drink lol, and we were saying, if you shut your eyes and hear the song, for someone to say 'this is the Moldovan entry' you'd prob agree, but shut your eyes, listen and then be told 'this song is the UK's entry' you'd be shocked.

UK used to have proper music back in the day, and were up there with the likes of the Yanks. Now if anyone watches the Eurovision and they see the kind of music that's coming out of the UK, it's not really saying much.

Ok true, a lot of the time the voting is done mainly not to upset the neighbours and start border wars, but still the UK entry had NOTHING going for it. If it was a brilliant song which was executed perfectly and it was last, then there'd be annoyance over the voting. Thing is people in the UK automatically say the voting is unfair but for those who say that, do you really feel that song was exceptional? Tbh, I was really expecting it to be last, as it was crap.

I dunno why we dont just boycott it or pull out as a nation. Maybe send a blank CD in as our entry next year.

The whole thing is a farce & it makes the UK look pathetic just by entering & taking it seriously. We will never win.

the problem is that the eurovision network is based on tv feeds, and britain controls a huge amount of it, so we always get an automatic in for the final..

our entries are crap as a rule. i think that if we actually sent a decent act, in a genre that would appeal, take that for example, we'd slaughter all the crap acts from abroad, but there really are countries that send their biggest acts in for the competition. i don't actually bother to watch it, apart from the year that israeli shim won it....... but i always tune in for the voting......

it is a british institution, and even though its crap, i think it still has its place.

The spanish entry a few years back was epic, the crazy rapper :)

What genre would do it for the contest? you get all sorts in and all sorts get great votes (tactical/political)...
Seriously, just pull out and let the rest bitch and whinge about not being able to get the TV feeds done. Why should my license fee pay for **** like that
