I'm going to refurb some old alloy wheels. I will be painting them matt black, I have a couple of questions.

How do I retain the matt effect of the paint if I coat them with clear lacquer?

How many coats of paint/lacquer do I give each wheel?

What is the best tool to use to get the flakey paint off with a drill or angle grinder each with wire brush attachment?

Thanks

Nitormorse and an old toothbrush/nail brush / wire wheel on a drill / even Dremmel - depends on the wheel design.

You could leave them without lacquer. Or use matt lacquer.

Get a sander and some 80 grit. You can sand out almost all the the marks on wheels as the alloy is very soft.

Matt black is sh*te, but if you wanna do it then go for it. As far as i know you cant buy satin lacquer in a can so you'll not be able to lacquer it.

3/4 coats is fine. Remember to do the insides too.
