Right mr Chris has a 1980 mk1 fiesta, and nearly bought a escort GTI tonight for its rather awesome 115hp 1.8 16v Zeeeeetec engine.

Anyways, Turns out the engine/box etc wasnt worth buying for £220 so we left empty handed.

So, it turned into a mondeo engine 135hp larde lar lar... But, the conversion is rather indepth needing new mounts welding into place, difference shafts etc etc.

So... I said C20XE the little bugger but now im looking for some info really if anybody has any ideas or knows of anybody who has an xe into a mk1 festa let me know :D

Cheers.

The only time I've seen an XE in a MK1 Fiesta was at a hillclimb...it was also RWD lol

Helpful post I know!

Not sure how the XE would bolt up to a ford box. obviously there are bellhousing adaptors for the eccy rear drive conversion but theres no room for that on a transverse engine, even if one existed.

So you'll be using an F20 in which case your into shaft problems. First step is to compare the nova shafts with the fester ones to see if they are the same length. If they are you need to do some research and see if you can fit an inner CV to the fes shafts to fit the box, or outers to the nova shafts to fit the fes hubs. (long shot).

Alternatively, you'll have to cut and shut the shafts which I recommend you pay to be done proffessionally.

Gear change should be easy, Id probably just fit a cav shifter as per the Nova mod (see articles) but you may have to fabricate a bit around that area to suit. However i'm loving the 'Mondeo engine requires a bit of welding and having to fart around with shafts, so we'll fit an XE which will require a lot of welding and a huge faff about with shafts' lol lol

Even the zvh is not straight forward it involves drilling and enlarging holes on the flywheel and then there is all the arsing around finding parts. At least if we go xe the hassle will be worth it as its different. I'm enrolling on a college course doing classic car restoration involving fabrication and welding i'm hoping to just be able to do the conversion there lol. Another reason for the xe is that i have walking encyclopedias on them ( rexy, riggy and mark eastham) so any issues and someone will know what to do rather than the zetec where they are clueless. As said above the only real major expense that i can see as long as the engine fits in the bay is the driveshaft but i rather pay and get them done properly than keep snapping them. I'm not chasing out right power figures i'm more interested in handling and just having some power to back it up.

And the award for the most threads about the same thing, goes to.... lol

I can't see it being to hard as the ford boys have put these engines in a lot of different cars
