View Full Version : 2.5 v6 what gearbox and setup

Would like some advice on what gerbox to go for with the old v6 also known as the redtop v6. Its currently got a chipped ecu, full stainless system, f20 with the slim 2.0 flywheel, but the clutch needs changing so what the best set up for this engine in a mk3 astra

try & find a south african astra mk3 forum, they sold a factory 2.5 v6 mk3 over there

came with an f17 or f18 standard iirc

im going to fit a f20 to it but what clutch to go for?

the std c20xe one will be fine, try and find a flat type fly tho

I have 2 options a f20 done 70k for 100 pounds or a f18 unknown milage for 30 pounds. Anyone used a f18 on the v6?

I have an f18 in my corsa v6. Depends what you want, 1st and 2nd are mental keeps you pined in ur seat. I personally prefer the f18 as my mate had a f20 just didnt feel the same.

So i say f18 :)

also I have a spare helix paddle clutch (sbing type) with I will be fitting with standerd presure plate, should be ok ye

What have you done to the rear exhaust manifold to stop it hitting the rack?

Iv only just bought the car today, its got 2.5 v6 old type with chip, full stainless and f20 box and flywheel. Iv bought the car with box and clutch gone so I dont know anythin about it sorry. Il ask my mate hes done 1 before.

We have a f20 on our v6 and its fine but we running a 6900 rev limit.

An F18 will be ok on a 2.5, it shouldn't be pushing out enough torque to mash it (unless the chip has added >15lbft). F20 will also be fine.
