Just want basic info on prices and fitting etc a redtop or a 1.6. I'm running a standard 1.2 hatchback. Any rough prices on fitting each with parts etc how much work .

A 1.6 is cheaper as don't need different mounts or shafts or weld the engine bay. Will still be slow though. Cost about £150.

With the XE it depends how good a job you want to do and whether you can weld youself.

Mainly just want more acceleration and a quick cheapish solution to this .But without tuning a 1.2 haha. Coz I know could put a turbo on the 1.6 later.

Maybe a 1.6 then, they are only 100bhp if you are lucky though. Granted it will be better than your 1.2.

LMFAO

Cheapest solution would be the 1.6; tbh if you're used to driving the 1.2 it'll feel like a rocket ship even with just that. However, if you're used to something faster then the XE is the obvious choice BUT if you want it to handle properly (and not like the ones rickyb has obviously owned lol) you'll need to spend some good money on decent suspension and chassis setup. Its people who have skimped on the conversion costs that caused all the "XE's don't handle" gubbins.

Tax will be the same on both engines, but the XE would no doubt see a higher insurance premium.

Maybe stick the 1.6 in for now, see how you get on, then do the XE at a later date.

Going from a 1.2 to a 1.6 8v was awesome I thought, felt proper powerful lol If it's your first engine conversion then the 1.6 is perfect as it drops straight in with minimal modifying.

:confused::confused::confused:

Id definately fit a 1600 engine as a bottle of semi skimmed milk is not going to be very fast in your engine bay is it lol

Yeah will be my first conversion so should be enough for me.have drive faster cars but just want something a bit faster that can add to.

Without trying to open a can of worms - how old are you and have you checked your insurance with a XE conversion?

Maybe a 1600 16v motor would be another idea?

I'm old enough mate.just wanted basic knowledge of how much parts and fitting costs for 1600.

ok, it can be fitted in an afternoon single handed & will cost £150 ish, if you are up to it...... I have managed one in under 4 hrs & drove it to work the next day. it all depends what kit you've got access to & how good you are at wiring. there are only 5 odd wires to swap, you keep nearly all of the original loom. then you need to sort out the fuel tank & pump you'll need, is your car an spi or a carb?

You can convert it from a 1200 to 1600 in a couple of hours (as Mowglis already said) an do it from as little as £100 (probably less if you try hard enough)

Ill soon have a 60k odd mile 1400 16v complete engine, box, loom, ECU & immboliser chipped key for sale soon.
