Does anyone have the same issues, i recently got my tracking done as i changed the wheel bearing on the front which threw the steering slightly off centre.

Is it just me or do other peeps on here just hate it when the steering wheel is off centre even if its just very slightly. I took it back after realising it was off, and he didnt seem to happy and said just change the wheels around, i gave him an odd look, (anyway) nonetheless got it back on the ramp, he said its been re-adjustments, anyway after all that its still bent. I feel to just take it somewhere else to get it redone.

What are u lot like then?

anytime i get my tracking done a bloke makes sure the steering wheel stays straight and they adjust both rod ends to the correct position, i thought all places done it this way?

Yeah they use that tool that's wedged between the steering and the seat, if its not been postioned corrected before they adjust the track rod ends then the steering is gonna be off centre.

i have had no end of troubles with "wheel alignment specialists". this is a classic. basicaly they dont centre the rack before setting the tracking i.e. you will get more turns of the steering wheel to the left than right.they take it for granted that the steering rack has never been changed or the wheel has never been off. if you dont centre the rack and get it tracked you could potentially end up with the wheels pointing straight and not be able to turn left tight as you can right or vice versa.

with your problem they could have done this and the rack is centred but means the wheel is squint. in this case you will need to jump the wheel round a few splines.

basicaly just because the steering wheel is squint doesnt mean the tracking is wrong. it could be the steering wheel that is wrong. please take the time to check. This can be a real problem with a "quick" rack.

imo just borrow a steering wheel puller and turn a spline to strighten it up, atleast its not like the old ford hex style those were a bloody nightmare lol

I know exactly what your saying fella, the tracking is fine, it just bugs me if the steering isnt exactly in the centre. When it was tracked previously, the steering was spot on. This time, before the tracking was adjusted (i.e. aligned the wheels and adjutsed the track rod ends), the wheel was not positioned RIGHT in the middle hence the wheels are alighned correctly but leaving the steering wheel slightly off centre.
