As Paul one of the previous owners of my second Sport had been searching for her, thought I'd better post up some photo's.

I bought her to ensure another sport didn't get broken, and had the space and some cash at the time;) and has sat waiting pationly since April 08.

She is currently stored away, but I have be accumulating parts for the eventual restoration.
It still has her origonal doors as well !!
Don't have many photo's at the moment but here's what I've gotlol

She has been partly restored, Rich's (Novasport) photo's show more but is basically complete.

If I can complete her to a similar standard as the SR I will be pleased.
Esencially I intend to keep her looking as she should, but hopefully some engine mods to let her breathe a little more:)

These are my other two Nova's my B reg 1.3SR and my other C reg Sport if you didn't know already(This Sport is having a little bodywork repair before Billing;) )

The truth is that this post can be an interesting friend of mine, to without I will follow it attentivly.

Comments on the auto body since I see her very well also, another thing that I do not understand is the following one. Are you going to leave it of statics or simply of racing? In end a greeting and much I encourage for your project.

Hi CorsaMalaga,

I'm not sure what spec the car will be when finished, certainly returned to her former glory in "Sport" trim

Engine spec will probably be developed from the standard Sport spec, i.e. plus big valve head polished & ported, high lift cam (she currentl;y has a std SR cam I think (marked with a "B")

But plenty of time for that, need to assess the shell thoroughly and strip her dont for remedial work!!;)

If I ever get over to the Caterpillar Malaga site (I work for Cat) maybe get chance for a beer;) lol

Hi, was it yourself that sold it to Phil from Derby? He bought it around 1999-2000 but never got it on the road. He is a good friend of mine and there was five of us that all had Sport's at the time.
Royston still has the car but he has a lot of projects on the go so he has not made a start on it yet. I am sure he will be on here shortly to fill you in.

It was me that sold it to Phil from Derby, I remember about five lads turning up at my house in Coventry to buy it. :D I bought it from Jason Lepley motorsport in Mansfield and had it for about two years, got a bit nostalgic when I seen the 300bhp 4x4 one in total vauxhall and searched again today for C464 HKX sad but true!

I know Jim & Craig went with Phil to buy it and Craig drove it home AFAIK as Phil wasn't driving at the time. They were also Sport owners and Craig had also bought his Sport(A13 SPT) from Lepley's aswell.
Phil and his dad started a resto but it never got finished, he said he wanted to sell so I helped him out & luckily Royston offered to buy it.

Sh!t the bed, has it really been four and a half years since you got this!!!

Sorry I haven't responded sooner, I was out for an Indian last night and in late:d

Yes it has:eek: doesn't time fly, when I bought her I was initially to ensure she didn't get broken, and a few months later we sold the business premises and bought our current home, and all the toys were in "compact" storage.

Since then we have built a "Large" toy shed where all the cars, etc now reside.

Since buying her I have accumulated the few missing parts required, plus a few other items, currently the intention is to restore her at some point, and is therefore not for sale, this may change at some point in the future.

I have all the facilities and equipment to restore her, but not the time at the moment, she is in safe hands;)

Watch this space............

Cheers for the reply Royston, It's a pity the car isn't for sale as wanted to restore the car as have regretted selling for many years, and I fear if you restored the car it would be way out of my league.

I will pm you my mobile number and email address, could I be cheeky and ask for first refusal if you sell the car as it is or when it's restored?

This is the first time I have seen this thread since 2010 when I first started looking for the car, but always remember how quick, fun and the noise of the thing couldn't fail to put a smile on my face everytime I drove it! :)

As mentioned yesterday I finally got round to removing the engine ready for rebuild, wasn't sure it would come out separately splitting it from the gearbox, but I managed (had to split the clutch cover off the flywheel, clutch assembly looked fairly fresh, with little wear )

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v697/1297cc/20141025_153328__zps26ff6a9a.jpg

Next stage to get the engine stripped down and cleaned ready for rebuild, No 1 bore is trashed so will require rebore and new pistons. Plan is to get the internals balanced while stripped, need to decide on head work, etc

also pulled together the 5 off 5J x13" steel Sport rims, new one sourced from Germany) took me 7 years to find five!!

Royston

Got 2 options 0.5mm oversize or go for 1.2 pistons, luckily I have both in stock.

Need to look into the compression ratio with the reduced dish of the 1.2 pistons against 1.3

Not sure of the full spec yet, but rest assured it will fly for a small block 8V

The interior is what came with it, the rear bench is in pretty good condition, has been taped up in bin liners for the past eight years, first time out!

Woah. It looks like it too. I hope it's saveable at any rate.
You mention the bores in the block, is the head OK? I'd have expected some heavy corrosion/pitting of the alloy?

If you get the head all done up, it is a bit risky, as you don't know what the damage/corrosion wise is - where you can't see.

plenty of heads knocking about that won't cost the earth.....you will have to spend a few quid to get that one sorted anyways !

nice engine strip-down pics on the previous pages :thumb:

only 7 years to find a matching set of wheels lol

that head looks good and crusty lol .... may need a light skim, and the valves lapping in, but i reckon it'll most probably be alright.

like yours, my nova was sat in a garage for years un-used too, so i should probably think about doing the head gasket on it, before it corrodes away. ive had one fail like that in the past.

Sorry for the lack of recent updates

But here is the latest, I need to post some pics up, but I have built an engine to go in from parts I had, I will rebuild the original engine later to a high spec later when the car is properly restored

Engine spec is

1.3 with 1.0mm overbore, and decked
Intenals balanced, with lightened con rods, new pistons
1.2 head, skimmed
1.3 head gasket
Kent AST1 cam

It was suppose to be a cheap interim engine, but never mind.

Hopefully today the engine and box will be back in.

Really up against it to get her running for Biling, due to work but will be there one way or another!

Big thank you to my friend Stuart,

Today we managed to......

Connect the handbrake cable
Fit the back box and centre section of the exhaust....loosely
Fitted the exhaust manifold
Run in the fuel lines
Fitted the tank filler pipe
Secured the tank
Fitted some Delco front calipers
Fitted the engine and gearbox
refitted the front suspension
Got her back on her wheels, pushed her back in the shed

A few pictures....

Took a while to get the oil pressure up and be confident she wouldn't seize up on first fire:eek:

Pleased to say that the engine runs so smoothly and sounds great

A few more minor jobs to complete and she should be ready for Billing!:d

Need to get some prep work done on the other one now

Its always a bit scary when you turn that key for the first time live! there's always a nagging doubt you have forgotten some thing.......

Other Sport has been away for a few weeks getting set up, as she had a few running issues, but should be back next week. Cant wait to have her out on the road stretching the forties:d

Yeah i know exactly what you mean lol im especially paranoid since my 205 gti caught fire during bleeding the coolant after an alternator problem lol
Did you replace the lifters on this btw? I have a thread up in mechanical about a problem. If so who did you use? Ive read some are terrible.

Royston

Yes I fitted all new hydraulic lifters, cam followers and thrust pads, all were sourced through my local machine shop, he also balanced all the internals, did all the skims and supplied the gaskets.

Cant remember the brand, will try and check in the rubbish bag!

Well had a fright yesterday, the cam belt stripped:eek: it was a Kent Cam belt too, was just beginning to think the tension was a little high.

I should know better.............

Luckily no damage, fitted another belt............Phew;)

Just a few jobs left, brakes to bleed, cam belt cover, and an oil filter to change.

Soon be Billing:d

Had the other sport tuned up and out on the road, goes quite well!!!

Used it as a run around this morning getting a few bits and bobs for Sport2
