Well when driving down the road the speedo is about 5-20 mph too fast (pending on speed)
The speedo is the original one, and has 13" steels so isnt the fact that anything has been changed.
Is the cable foobared/lose?
Is the speedo unit foobared?
anyone that can help will be rewarded with some reppage

Ta :)

Have you swapped or changed anything to do with the gearbox? If no then the only answer can be that the speedo unit needs to be replaced.

It only has the standard 'white ring' dials that were fitted as standard on the flair models (iirc)
Suppose it will just give me an excuse to buy a digi dash quicker :d

I've had this problem on my totally standard 1991 nova, and from asking around it a seems to be a very common problem. I tried several cables, but that made no difference, and I tried several sets of clocks. Changing the clocks helped a bit, but it was still 5-10 mph out. The conclusion now is that it must be down to wear of the speedo drive in the gearbox due to the age of the car.

You can see the speedo drive ring+gear on the right of that pic. Even if they were worn, they wouldn't drive the cable any faster.
