I've just drove my newly fitted c20xe to the mot station, I parked outside and everything was running/idling fine when it just decided to cut out and now it won't start!! Me and the mot guy then noticed it's spilling out loads of oil from the sump aroind the oil pump area?? Can anybody help? I can't understand why it won't start?

Yes it turns over but no smell of fuel just burning oil were it's dripping onto the manifold

why do you want to start it when you have an oil leak?

Do you not know how flammable oil is?

What exactly do I soto check? Just wip a spark lead out and touch it to metal

yeah if you have a spark check the fuel rail to see if there is presure release it turn the engine over again and chek the preasure again

and the most obvious one are you 100% sure you have petrol in the tank because a jerry can full goes quckly in an xe

lol yea I filled the tank on my way up there, luckily my house is just over the road so We pushed it over! Only problem now is I can't check the pressure because I only have one pair of hands now I'll just have to wait for a mate of mine who should be here any min! So he can turn it over whilst I check:)

check the bolts for the oil cooler and the 2 big bolts on the oil pump
when my let was leaking it was due to a loose bolt on the oil pump
you can check the fuel pressure your self
the dust cap on the rail just un screw and has a valve in it
press the valve and release the pressure then turn the car over and press it again once youve done that no need for two people

auzzy-b

Cool! I thought I'd have to press it whilst someone was turning it over! I'll try now and if there is none I'll check for a love at the fuel pump..

check your fuel pump relay aswell and all your earths

you should hear the pump buzzing away when you turn the ignition on
but id be checking the oil pump for cracks/loose bolts etc etc first

auzzy-b
25-05-10, 03:22 PM
I checked the valve without turning it over and there's plenty of fuel there? So it should start I'd guess unless it's not sparking! Which i'll have to check when I get an extra hand

the oil pumps brand new with new gasket & seals and it all looks ok.. Most of the oil looks to be coming from the sump gasket!

napalm_27

multi meter mate
my guess would be crank sensor or loss of 12v at the coil
if its lost the 12v at the coil run a live from the + side of the coil to the battery and see if it fires up :thumb:
had a right mare with the let when that happened

if its proper pissing out it could be the crank seal mate
most people change to the baffled sump gasket so may be worth doing that aswell

Yea Was planning on putting a baffle gasket on this weekend because I new it had a feather line crack on the sump! But it's only ever slowly dripped out so o think a new crank seal would be a good idea! It's the only seal I didn't replace when I rebuilt the engine:roll:
as for the the coil mine has a speed module instead (late type) ?

If the crank sensor has gone wouldn't the ignition light be on?

auzzy-b
25-05-10, 05:03 PM
It's just started and then I switched it off now it won't start again WTF! It sounded as thou it was struggling for air when I rev'd it and it was idling quite high!

auzzy-b
25-05-10, 05:09 PM
Could it be overfueling? How do you adjust it?

Riggy
25-05-10, 05:53 PM
the running sounds like the same prob i had over weekend , the small earth in the boot to the rear pannel had broke , mine wouldnt start and when it finally did wouldnt rev past 1500

auzzy-b
25-05-10, 06:07 PM
I'll check that now rigg I had thought it could be an earth because it did the same last week but then after wiggling the fuel pump wires is was fine again? Hmm

Have you got the idle control valve and knock sensor plugs the right way round. Black goes to ICV, red to knock sensor?

auzzy-b
25-05-10, 07:11 PM
Yea I know the knock sensor was on wrong last week because the warning light was on so I flashed the ecu and now it's spot on.. Just can't understand how it's gone from running fine all morning to just cutting out and being a pain lol

auzzy-b
25-05-10, 07:26 PM
Can't really figure it out when it was idling it was bogging down now and again then eventually it went off? Afm? Crank sensor is all I can think of..

Lee H

You say its a dispack engine? If so unplug the air flow meter and see if it starts then.

No it's the later type coil pack sorry! I tried unplugging the afm and still nothing just turns over:(

are you smelling fuel out your exhaust now or not have you checked you got the 3 earths on the fuel rail 2 on the right and 1 on the left as you look at it

auzzy-b
25-05-10, 07:52 PM
Is there a sensor that knocks the engine off If it's gets to warm or the oil gets low?this is driving me crazy!! Lol

Benn
25-05-10, 07:56 PM
No^

And late coil pack is dis pack.

Are you getting a spark?

auzzy-b
25-05-10, 07:58 PM
Yea because it started fine earlier and then decided it didn't want to again!?

All the earths are there and there's fuel at te rail but still nothing.. If I leave it for a while it seems to start again but then after that it'll just turn over

Benn

Doesn't mean your getting a full strong spark all the time. If you have something lose you might only get it when the connect is made...

Cts connected ok?

auzzy-b
25-05-10, 08:19 PM
Cts? Control temp sensor? I wouldn't know.. were is it exactly

Lee H
25-05-10, 08:26 PM
Coolant temp sensor, located on the thermostat housing, the two pin plug.

auzzy-b
25-05-10, 08:32 PM
O I get you now! Yes it's connected seems fine, ands it's had a new cool running thermostat

Benn
