well in that case its got to be a baxter fitted engine! lol
how many angle grinder discs did you go through? :p
CV joint, bushings, I had a similar knock on mine that was the strut top.
Mine clunked on acceleration, turned out to be the tie bar mount

Jacvk up both wheels & yank on anything & everything that is part of the fr steering, suspension or brakes etc.
My guess is tiebar or balljoint, maybe engine mount. See if you can perform the 'dunk' with the bonnet off & a mate watching/driving.
Did you cut the lug off the gear box? That mine be hitting.. Mine touches at time.

Apart from the usual Baxterisms (if thats a word) I would look at :
a . tie bars and brackets
b. lower ball joints
c. track rod ends
d. lower arm bushes
e. all of the above
My unusual steering I've put down to ball joint wear - on the way back from Burton I could change lane just by gentle acceleration - torque steer is so noughties - worn ball joints are for the teenies .

cv joint !
CV or the nut not done up tight enough allowing the shaft and cv to move too much.

had similar problem to, for me was the tie rod, but people saying its one thing are just silly. could be a number of things. I had the same knocking when my wheel bearing when soon on after. so check most things jack it up and shake things, thats always the best, just make sure everything is there and tight and bushes arnt dead, if still no problem could be cv joints but they usually make a ticking noise

I think people are just offering suggestions as to what it might be based on experience. It's better to work from a known list of causes and rule them out than to have to check everything yourself off the top of you head.
I agree CV's click when they are worn but when I first had mine the hub nut was too loose after a bearing swap and made a clunk as the drive shaft moved sideways hence my suggestion - it took ages to work out what it was.
