Starting a project thread on behalf of my friend. This is his 92 Merit Plus, it is a VERY clean shell, with smoothed engine bay, GSi kit, GSi interior, 5 stud conversion, rear disc brakes and a full respray in Star silver last year.

Engine was a 2.0 8v but had a few problem's :-

He then decided that rather than try and sort the 2.0 he would just go with a 1.6 8v instead. The 1600 is a 16SV and has a Kent cam, vernier pulley, 4 branch manifold and a ported & polished head along with a Nova GTE c/r gearbox.

So time for the 2.0 to leave :-

1600 bolted in minus cylinder head :-

New valve stem seals fitted, valves and the cylinder head cleaned up :-

Head re-fitted along with lifters, cam followers and thrust pads :-

Cam box cleaned, painted, fitted and the whole lot torqued down :-

thats looking nice and he'll definately have fun with those 40's barking away under the bonnet lol

Should go well with the 40's once they are fitted, it is a very good engine.

Dash out to tidy the conversion wiring up and to fit an Astra GTE digital dash :-
