With it being nice outside, it was time to sort out the only thing that really annoys me with the GSi.
It's Carmine Red, which is fine, but the car's Flame red.
So it looks Orange on the car.
The original owner said it was the right colour and just faded, but it's been cut back, and it's just the wrong colour.

So yesterday i masked it up.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i124/Keif_1974/Cars/NovaGSi/Spoiler/DSCF2829.jpg
Then gave it a good rub down.

This morning, i've added some extra masking.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i124/Keif_1974/Cars/NovaGSi/Spoiler/DSCF2831.jpg
and done a very light first coat.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i124/Keif_1974/Cars/NovaGSi/Spoiler/DSCF2832.jpg
Just waiting for that to dry, going to give it another light rub down then apply the second coat.
Second coat on.

Waited for that to dry, gave it a light rub down. then went for coat three.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i124/Keif_1974/Cars/NovaGSi/Spoiler/DSCF2834.jpg
Gave that a more thorough rub down, then a final coat.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i124/Keif_1974/Cars/NovaGSi/Spoiler/DSCF2835.jpg
After that was dry, i removed all the masking
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i124/Keif_1974/Cars/NovaGSi/Spoiler/DSCF2836.jpg
and flatted the paint down.

That's it for today, i'll leave it uncovered most of the day, so it cures nice and hard. It'll get machine polished tomorrow.

Mine was the same faded mis-match when I got it. The plastics (bumper & spoiler) seem to fade differently to the body panels IMO.
Seeing as GSi's didnt come in Carmine Red also..

As much as it looks good, especially with rattle cans im guessing? But why on earth did you go to all the trouble of masking the car up when iirc its just four 10mm nuts holding it on?

its not just four 8mm nuts its got that stupid glus aswell whats a mission to get it off
I have a very good paint supplier local to work.
Took the car to work on Friday and they colour matched the Flame Red and bunged it in a 500ml Aerosol can.
The young guy at the paint place is also a Nova owner and was drooling while he was getting the correct shade. Saying that, i have machine polished the paint to give it a fresh look anyway.
So yes, i've used an aerosol can to paint the rear spoiler, i've sprayed numerous bits using aerosols, take my time and normally get pretty good results, so i went to this full of confidence that it'd come out as good as it has.
As for removing the spoiler, the 4 nuts are off, however it's been fitted properly and is also bonded on and I wasn't happy breaking the bond.
If i had removed it, i'd have then had issues of where to sit it while spraying it. On the car, it's sat at a perfectly accessible height. So it got painted there.
Also the stuff for masking didn't cost me anything anyway.

That's fair enough, my spoiler is just bolted on lol
Anyway the finish looks spot on and definetly worth while doing.
Looks spot on mate.
Quick question, the paint place you mention? What's it called?

People often say, you shouldn't use an aerosol blah blah blah. But like you've done some good results can be had using them, as you've flatted between coats to get the nice smooth build up and finish. Good work n nice gsi. It's missing the black stripe from the bumper which IMO would finish it beutifully.
Thanks.
It's missing nothing ben, it has a red strip in the bumper and is as original as it was when Pentagon Derby delivered it to it's previous (and only other) owner in Feb 1992.

Spoiler looks good - Not bad for an outside paint job
I'm guessing you didn't lacquer it ?
No Lacquer, it's not metallic. ;)
I know i could have done, but it would look daft with a red spoiler and the rest of the car pink. lol

Aye that's true mate - I never lacquer Flame Red when I paint it either
Nice motor though, it be at Billing again ?
Fingers Crossed it will be on the Sunday.
June and July could be a logistical nightmare.
