Bit of a schoolboy/ vague question but what are your predictions for a misfire on a car i bought the other week.
Its a 1200 carb
misfires bad on idle
'seems' to clear when revved up and drives fine its only when i come to a junction is misfires and the car shakes like it has a v8 or something in it lol
Changing the plugs and leads at weekend and hoping its them, but if not what do you think it may be.
I got a feeling the heads going to have to come off for a de-coke session :(

Not losing any water/oil? Might be worth getting a compression tester on it.

Other than that i cant think of much, give it a rag etc lol

check the dizzy advance retard mechanism. if its knackered, it will give the above symptoms

plugs will too.

i think there's at least one small bore hose attached between the air cleaner and the carb. if it comes loose (and they do come loose) it can upset slow running. Also there's the vacuum retard pipe that goes from there to the distributor, might have chafed or come off.
