well since i crashed my burgandy nova and had the corsa, ive always wanted another nova and the chance came up to swap my corsa for a nova j reg 1.2 carb. corsa had its faults, 1ltr 12v engines are pretty crap imo.

dont have any pics of when i first got it but the wings were fcuked and the doors were shot, so my dad bought me a nova to strip from u-pull-it.

so as its sits now mult coloured lol, needs some welding then i can get it lowered.

and fitted a magnex which i sold to a mate which i bought back.

thats it the now.

20-05-10, 07:28 PM
Doesn't look too bad mate - Looks like the same backbox as mine as well :)

muzzy
20-05-10, 07:31 PM
I've seen worse. I hope you are painting it fairly soon though lol

moffat
20-05-10, 08:16 PM
aye muzzy, not decided yet tho, not working atm so going be a project.

aye vaughan its a magnex for the corsa but a got it to fit. sounds nice.

thinking about white or brezze blue or brodcade yellow.

got a 60mm jamex kit sitting and ive spoke to a mate with a mint set of silver softstars and hes keeping them till i can afford them. trying to get a blue sri interior and a gsi front bumper and then ive got everything to complete the build.

burgo
21-05-10, 03:06 AM
i dont like the look of that rust around the strut top, tis strange as the rest doesnt look to bad

vaughanmc
21-05-10, 06:38 PM
Keep at it cheif - Plans seem subtle

get stuck in matey get her painted soon though lol

moffat
22-05-10, 04:29 PM
i would get it paintedsoon but funds are limited atm.

being painted white with a dark grey/black bottom bit and bumpers with bump strips. basically be early mk2sr spec.

spoke to cle and he has the remaining parts i need to complete my bulid

so the plan is to get her welded, meet with cle and get the parts, strip it down and prep for paint and rebuild, job done.

a nice and easy plan lol lol a hope

moffat
23-05-10, 12:08 AM

no problem mate shame its not a sr with that reg aswell bud!!

moffat
24-05-10, 03:42 PM
ken man but its going to be an sr replica.

the spec im hoping for:-

white with grey/black trim and bumpers
lowered 60mm
irmscher softstars
astra mk4 mudflaps
euro reverse light
blue/grey sri interior
de locked
side repeaters and ariel smoothed
bee-sting
central locking

vx kev
24-05-10, 04:22 PM
You'd be better sticking with the Violet/Mauve colour the shell is rather than changing it to white. You might not need to do as much work for painting that way, plus there lots of white nova's out there so it il be a little different :thumb:

moffat
24-05-10, 04:34 PM
you have a point kev, would be nice with a colour coded gsi kit and sideskirts. wait and see.

vaughanmc
24-05-10, 07:20 PM
Silk Violet SR replica - Now that would be different

With they grey at the bottom etc

Now, theres something to think about :)

Yip! Vaughans onto something there like :thumb:

If you do it white then to do it right you should really be doing the engine bay, door and boot checks and all that jazz. No point in doing it any other way! All takes time and money. Plus if the roofs good then thats another saving.
You've no patience lad, everythings to be done yesterday lol So would prob be cheaper and done a lot quicker if you just do what needs to be done :thumb:

great car with ace potential! did you get your b reg sold?

moffat
24-05-10, 09:40 PM
vaughan - great point and im liking the think of that

vxkev - aye was thinking today and silk violet would be the cheapest opion, plus am way of the painting stage atm welding and rear archs are my main concern

balley77vaux - aye looked pretty wackey multi coloured that was my first nova project

marc69 - yeah my dad sold the b reg, i had a corsa b 98 on an r with problems which i swapped for the nova

thanks

moffat
25-05-10, 06:02 PM
been thinking today and just keeping it the silk violet colour it is as its quite rare.

seems to run alot better on v-power and i get better ecomony, tis strange

vaughanmc
25-05-10, 06:59 PM
Mine ran a lot smoother on the V-Power - Never felt any power gains but pulling away etc was nice and smooth

Now back to 'coucil juice' as V-Power is too deer lol

moffat
25-05-10, 07:03 PM
aye a put a fiver of said council juice in it and it was running like a bag of sh1t earlier. really needs a service tbh. got my leads and dizzy of my 1.2i but not sure if they will fit. need to change the brakes aswell as the rubbish.

moffat
28-05-10, 11:53 PM
** update

got my back archs treated and sanded down to bare metal and zinc primed for the time being...... pics tomorrow

should have the welding done next week

moffat
29-05-10, 04:14 PM

Dont think ive ever seen much a P***ed headlight/bonnet/indicator/grille assembley lol

moffat
29-05-10, 06:16 PM
cause of the welding the previous owner did the passenger wing sits slightler higher and the bonnet needs ajusted as i changed it

vaughanmc
30-05-10, 09:30 AM
I'd replace the back arches mate, there no the tidiest looking!

moffat
30-05-10, 10:31 AM

vaughanmc
30-05-10, 10:33 AM
You using the early boot ?

moffat
30-05-10, 10:37 AM
aye man the boy ive got welding the strut is going sort the behind of 3 plates and il be sorted.

also get him to plate the door lock up, side repeaters, boot lock, wiper and ariel.

vaughanmc
30-05-10, 11:24 AM
Early tailgate FTW - Looks like it's got a runker of a dent on the passenger side ?

moffat
30-05-10, 11:35 AM
dents on both sides, only cost me 7 quid

moffat
31-05-10, 04:37 PM
managed to source some wheels, astra sxi 16s be getting them next week and planning to do a silk violet sri rep, dont think its been done before so should be something different

moffat
01-06-10, 05:02 PM
yesterday got my doors de locked and central locking fitted. at last i can lock my doors and open them without climbing in the boot haha.

heres my wheel choice what you guys think?

http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg228/moffat_photos/alloys.jpg

vaughanmc
01-06-10, 05:03 PM
Nice wheels - Pics of delocked doors etc ? :)

moffat
01-06-10, 05:10 PM
not able to upload them atm. needs sanding anyway, will get pics when i get more work done on them.

also taiking a trip upto cles next week to get a blue sri interior and 2 rear arch repair panels

anyone know were i can source some sill skins?

and also vaughan need to get the doors plated from behind so the filler doesnt crack

also anyone know if a mk2 will pass an mot without side reapeters?

vaughanmc
01-06-10, 05:16 PM
Any car after 1986 I think NEEDS side repeaters - I looked at the MOT book as I wanted to smooth them on the Mk1 Nova

moffat
01-06-10, 05:18 PM
maybe depends on mot station as a mk2 indicator can be seen from the sides. il be at my local mot station on friday with my dad so il ask then cheers anyway

vaughanmc
01-06-10, 05:18 PM
Depends if it's a real MOT you get or a kid on/back hander lol

I'm just not a corner cutter when it comes to stuff like that

moffat
01-06-10, 05:23 PM
il try without side reapeters and if it fails il pop some on somewhere else

vaughanmc
01-06-10, 05:24 PM
You've plenty work before thinking about silly side repeaters lol Mind your windscreen is like held in by rot

moffat
01-06-10, 05:30 PM
going get alot more work done than first thought.

hoping to get these bits all sorted at one time once funds alow

1. strut welded
2. 2 plates underheadlights
3. passenger inner arch
4. bodge of splashgaurds sorted
5. new sills
6. rear arch repairs fitted
7. earlt tailgate 3 strips welded in place

vx kev
01-06-10, 06:38 PM
Certainly plenty of work to be done but hey ho, thats part of the charm of the little rot boxes eh lol

moffat
01-06-10, 07:42 PM

how much are the top half of front panels? how hard to change?

vaughanmc
09-06-10, 03:12 PM
Not that hard to change and not that expensive either :)

moffat
09-06-10, 03:14 PM
got to pay for this month, and welding is happen by the earliest friday/monday so probs patch it but do a neater job than the previous welds. also the strut needs done and the 2 wee bits under the window.

need metal tho

vaughanmc
09-06-10, 03:15 PM
Buy some sheet metal or use the old bonnet ?

moffat
09-06-10, 03:19 PM
thinking im going to use old panels i have lying. be best idea imo.

be nice to have it solid again.

just had a pm about a clean delocked drivers door so mite have that collected at some point as long as a can find a tidy delocked passenger door

vaughanmc
09-06-10, 03:22 PM
Text Greg - He has a white passenger door that I PX'd him for that 1400 SR engine

I'm sure he could come to a deal with you with that

Far better than the doors you have just now - Couple of dents need filled but NO rot - Light surface rust but nothing major like what you have

moffat
09-06-10, 03:27 PM
what greg lol

got the dents on my wings sorted but if am going to hassle of replacing the rear archs want near perfect doors

hope its going to turn out a nice wee silk violet sri rep

once the welding is done a trip for some underseal and waxoyl to try and stop it rotting, going to underseal the whole underside and hammerite my tank silver and i have my tidy yellow and red suspension and shiney axle to go on. look ok from underneath.

then be a case of just preping for paint and painting it...

vaughanmc
09-06-10, 03:29 PM
'My' Greg as you call him lol Drop him a text about it - He might be willing to sell it cheif

Sounding very good - I'm for my back axel, tiebars, ARB's etc all shotblasted then going to paint them up in silver and have everything nice and clean and factory looking

moffat
09-06-10, 03:31 PM
just plaim and simple mate all need to get a front ARB and il paint that silver. mite do the inner archs silk violet as both my last cars have had painted inner archs looks very clean imo. but time will tell

moffat
11-06-10, 03:24 PM
well the car is looking alot worse for ware atm, ive got 2 optoins no.1 is to reshell or no.2 is to plate the front and back panles atm and replace the front and rear panels later in the year....

im leaning towards the first option, but the problem is there aint a lot of good shells up here.

vaughans pal has a sr shell which would be ideal but the insurance on an sr is the most worrying and its a mk1 and i have mk2 panels and sri interior.

so whats peoples views reshell the shell or repair now and replace panels at a later date....

vaughanmc
11-06-10, 04:37 PM
I'm very much up for replace than repair mate - To make a good car you need a good car in the 1st place

Who's to say you can't have the Mk2 interior re-trimmed...Take a couple of years on it and make it a belter

bainyboy sr
11-06-10, 05:50 PM
get some pics up of the bad bits and that will help to see how bad it is and get more peoples views

moffat
11-06-10, 07:35 PM
aye was thinking replacing the front and rear panels but moneys tight atm so will repair atm and replace at a later date. seems to be an awrite idea since this is my daily.

deffo needing both panels fixed then replaced, aye the mk2 interior could be retrimed

bainyboy sr - pics of rot on page 9 bud

moffat
12-06-10, 11:11 AM
might just get it plated atm and then replace panels at a later date so its a neater job - as it would be a shame to scrap it.

any body have any links to front and rear panels brand new i cant seem to find any.

bloody addictive these novas eh lol

should have some welding progress by monday

bainyboy sr
12-06-10, 11:19 AM
i would replace the landing pannel as the cross member and front panel look solid , back panel i would repait tbh ive repaird worse

moffat
12-06-10, 11:21 AM
dont have the money atm mate got metal and a welder coming on monday
so should be back to solid in no time

the landing pannels arnt dear mate personally thats what id be doing , beacause itwill take longer to plate that front pannel up and itwill only need re done , i need to get a new welder mines is broke , and i found a fole in my sill last nite am gutted lol

moffat

be plated atm and a full front panel and rear panel will be fitted at a later date.

moffat
12-06-10, 04:49 PM
after searching for ages for nova pattern panels i found a website that does everything that i need.

settled on a upper front panel, rear panel and 2 sill skins and 2 inner archs so just going to save up to get these bought and find someone willing to weld it for me.

on monday its getting plated as my uncle is already coming and ive got panels

so theres light at the end of the tunnel.......................

vaughanmc
12-06-10, 05:29 PM
Put new panels on it mate - Full front end so it lasts for many years to come instead of bodging it together

Your wanting this car to last a while and be clean aren't you ?

moffat
12-06-10, 05:31 PM
they are new panels mate

aye probs get full front panel.

aye want it to last a while man

vaughanmc
12-06-10, 05:32 PM

moffat
12-06-10, 05:36 PM
it has the potentiol to be somethinig nice, but wont have the panels for a while so in the meantime its getting plated till the panels are bought then everything will get done.

was planning on reshelling it but dont want to anymore

vaughanmc
12-06-10, 05:41 PM
Why no save up and get everything you need ? Instead of bodging it then needing to undo that work to do more work ?

That's what I'd do but we're totally different lol Bodge away fella :):)

moffat
12-06-10, 05:45 PM
everythings already sorted for it to be repaired on monday and need the car on the road for wednesday. panels wont be till winter time, probs take car off road then to get it all done properly due to the fact im skint. not a case of bodging it just getting it driveable again till i can affored to do it rite. aint costing me anything to get it repaired on monday :)

moffat
17-06-10, 05:15 PM
not updated since i got the welding done, front strut got plated, 2 rear archs were fitted and 2 front headlight/inner wings were reconstructed. still a patch to do on the passenger rear inner wing and drivers rear spring seat.

was going to do another one and get rid of this one but ive came this far so im cracking on with it as it be a shame to scrap it.

couple of pics my pal took when were out and about.

dont have any progress/welding pics atm but you can see the rear arch is fitted and the car is lowered

need 3 more patchs of welding and itl be solid and decided to build this into what my old nova was,

burgandy gsi replica with silver sofstars lowered on coilovers as my suspension aint the best. got the gsi bumper and spoiler, need the side skirts and thats the body work sorted, sourced some better condition doors which
il be collection soon, got the softstars organised :D

still to get a black interior of some sort get the 3 patches of welding done.

the reason behind me doing this is that this is my second change to build a nova that i like and built, loved the colour of my old one so building this into what my old one should of looked like.

will look like this once completed

moffat
24-06-10, 11:23 AM
bainyboy think you have a point now reconsidering colour choice - any ideas? got a blue and grey sri interior so has to go with that. going have gsi kit on outside

bainyboy sr
24-06-10, 01:12 PM
breeze blue would be a cheaper option as its a solid colour, or go for something completly diffrent

moffat
24-06-10, 01:17 PM
suppose that could work - its needing the spring seats on the rear fixed and that will be most of the welding done.

08-07-10, 05:09 PM
well a not updated in a while, been quite busy sorting the pasenger rear arch using alot of filler but getting there. kinda lost some intrest in the project but now fully focused on getting it fixed. my pal is going to be welding the rear spring seats in the next couple of weeks. then ill change the reaer axle for my good condition one which is now painted silver... also decided on colour choice.. gloss black with red pin strip and grey gsi/gte skirts. also getting my bottom arms strenthened at the weekend and my back box sorted to fit properly. also got coilovers on the front now fitted on monday, what an inprovment over the 60mm kit i had fitted before. also picked up some 2litre brakes today ready to be fitted for the mot in august as the standard brakes are poo imo.

moffat
15-07-10, 06:42 PM
got a full nova roll cage from a local track car (red with scotland flag on roof) at the scrappies for 20 quid, and wilson, not phoned insurance yet car is declared standard atm so probs not,

and forgot to mention now running front coilovers and the tracking is really bad so another thing to sort and need to source 2ltr 8v brake discs and pads

wilson_sri
15-07-10, 06:44 PM

moffat

Right for a start I've done alot of work on Moffats car, Yes he's bodged a few things but he's got very limited knowledge on body repair etc and has done the best he can with my guidance or i have went over things he has done wrong to show him, I'm not going to sit and do the whole thing for him otherwise it'll just end up another laddie standign by a car SOMEONE ELSE BUILT

If you wanna get f**king wide with him, do it in person, I've heard alot about your nova's and to be fair theres nothing between them, Come play with the big boys when you have a car worthy of worship, at the moment all I can See is a SRi Rep with GSi bits and speedlines

How Original!!! How much has Mummy and Daddy spent on your SRi/GSi hybrid..... Moffats has turned what was really a scrap car and made it roadworthy and fairly better looking on pretty much skillseekers wages!!

vaughanmc
20-07-10, 06:10 PM
Mummy and Daddy haven't spent anything on my Nova - I bought it myself and looked after it and paid to have bits done here and there to make it better and more solid hence why mines is still going strong nearly 4 years on!

Nothing between my Nova's and whos ? lol

Mine's aren't MINT but by f*ck there 1000x cleaner than this thing which is being done up

If good shells are so easily had why dont you have another complete Sport? And that there dear boy is the point of restoring non mint shells!

However, the point of the story is, you gave up on it because you didn't have the required skills and wimped out. Moffat doesn't have the required skills yet to build a mint show car, but unlike you he's mucking in with what he's got, learning as he goes, and getting a reasonable end result that he's happy with and proud of. He has realistic expectations and is doing the best he can to realise them!
We don't all have a team of experts on hand, a fully fitted workshop, a bulging wallet, or the bank of mum and dad to fall back on and for those that don't it's a steep learning curve.

We all did things wrong or badly when we started out, some still do.

If you're in a position to offer advice or help, do so. If you're in a position to take the pi$$, do so.

However Vaughan, you're in neither position and have a lot to learn yourself. Until you can put up, shut up!

I used to have a lot of respect for how much you knew as a kid, and your enthusiasm, but now you just come across aas a bit of a twunt most of the time. You're in no way better than anyone else on here at anything to do with cars so stop acting like you are please. It's getting annoying.

Sorry for hijacking your thread moffat, and mods, if you feel i'm breaking any rules i'll take the slapped wrists for the cause. It needed said

well been up at my pals today who owns a nova saloon, and we have decided to take my nova off the road and get all the shell all welded up and strenthened, dont have a time scale but there alot of rot to sort but once we get started wont take long.

also sourced some astra gsi fanblades, gsi sideskirts and a front arb which im collecting a week on monday.

and as cle says there big plans for this, im needing to source a 1.6 8v gte/gsi engine as me and him are going to build a 1.6 8v turbo, prob take a few years but deffo think it going to be worth it, weve managed to source a few bit major bits already so were all set.

being cracking on tonight for a bit earlier, dug out the corsa gsi calipers and gave them a wee clean and painted them blue, also bought some 2x 195/50/15 for my cavalier expression wheels, they will be getting a refurb soon i think.

no news on the shell front atm but i think i might store this one down at my parents house and order some new panels and get my pal to weld the panels for me,

will post pics later
