Some pics of the recent oil spill; around 5,000 barrels are leaking into the Gulf waters - thats about 210,000 gallons each day.

It's crazy how much damage oil can make when it mixes with water. Fair play to BP for cleaning it up though, it wasn't they're rig in the first place. Still I suppose the PR wouldn't have been worse than it already is if they had just ignored it.

That would be the case IF they were actually trying; at the mo all they're doing is throwing money at local fishermen to do most of the work. The whole tank thing they're doing to contain the leak is totally untested in deep water and probably won't work.

What they should be doing, in fact what they should have done weeks ago, was get the national guard to nuke the leak, which would have avoided all this in the first place.

Surely you don't think that they would do the right thing first do you? The way it works is you throw millions at the problem, realise it's not working then do what you should have done in the first place. By that point the damage is already done.

Are Transocean doing anything seeing as it was they're platform in the first place?

Plus burning would only remove the surface gunk. Its the undersea stuff thats worse.

I dunno what all the fuss is about. Crude oil is biodegradable.

I remember my tutor at college telling us that if you put some really small amount of oil in a lake, that it would end up covering the whole area of water. Not sure the exact amount of oil he said or if it was true or not.

True, but it takes a while to break down and its the mess it causes in the meantime thats the problem lol
