Got a phone call today out of the blue from one of our work suppliers, saying he new of a nova that had been laid up for awhile and the person that owned it probably wanted to get shot of it, he told me were it was’ and that i should go and have a look after work. All he could tell me it was b reg and yellow! At this point I am hopefully thinking mk1 Jamaica yellow sr (yeah right) after clambering threw some undergrowth this is what I found, Totally original mk1 Jamaica yellow sr 36k on the clock, mint interior, snow plough the lot. Yes it needs a bit of restoration but its all there. HAPPY DAYS

mine had grass growing round it when i first found it... 18 months later, when they finally decided to sell it to me, the grass was about waist high... and the underneath is good as new.

I thought it may be a lock barrel but it seems a fcuked up place to put it lol! Wouldn't take much bypassing!

Nice to see this one has escaped the Chubb lock fascination too. lol

Very true, we have our name on a 1950's Manx Norton, probably never heard of one, but its worth £20k, buried in an oldmans hedge, wont sell it.

When he dies its ours his daughter saidlol

There is stuff everywhere, Theres an old dear in a mk2 escort round here, shes sick of people asking her to sell it.

Spent about 30mins with her looking at it etc, offered her £3k, she said no thank you, it was my husbands pride and joy, its not going anywhere.

if its a pear you may as well start with another shell, spray it the colour you want, as you'll have to do that anyway after making 75% of a nova out of steel plate, and put all the parts on it?

I love threads like this one..

Everyone‘s dream to get a tip off about a hidden classic..

If that SR can be restored then do it!

Make a fascinating thread and the car will be legend!

I agree.

If it's not a rotter someone on here needs to restore it for sure.
I have some rare new parts that would be useful to anyone that did restore it, Full early vinyl set, 1.3sr boot vinyl, lower half, b piller, rear spoiler, bump strips all new. I have no use for them now I have the Sport.

Could be very rotten underneath if it been stood for years tho.

ben doodar

imagine how many classic cars would sill be on the road if they didnt rot??
its a ******* aint it really. you can stumble upon a car like this but its never straight forward is it for the sake of rot it either makes the car something or not.

hopefully this will be a good un. the mk1 astra gte i "found" seems to be very solid and thats been off the road since 1995.
i look forward to seeing an update on this.

Well that’s the dream over! The guy I had been speaking to about the sr turned out he did not actually own it? (don’t ask) cutting a long story short, I have now spoken to the proper owner and all I got out of him was a big fat NO to selling it, I tried to reason with the guy but it was like talking to a brick wall, he would not even take an offer on it, said he has owned it from new and that’s where it’s going to stay all I managed to do was leave him my details in case he changed his mind which I suspect he threw in the bin when I left. GUTTED would be an understatement’ sorry to get you all excited guys but some you win and some you lose (for now)

Just a message to all who have emailed asking for the location of this car, I may be being a bit selfish here but I am not going to say where it is because I intend to have another go at purchasing it again in the future.
Cheers.

If the car means so much to him what with having owned it since new, why would he leave it in a bush rotting away rather than letting someone have a go at restoring it. I've spoken to people like that before about cars and it's a complete waste of time, they won't let someone else have it and they won't scrap it so will just sit like that till it falls apart from rust.

mowgli
20-05-10, 07:15 AM
i had some bother with a few youths in my area who thought mine was a scrapper, it had moss on it from when i bought it in 2000, but i didn't get it running till 2009. so i had to fend them off regularly.

Plug
20-05-10, 09:22 AM
imo its his car he can do what he wants with it. If he wants to let it rot let him.

Its not as if anyone can force him to sell it. Im guessing hes an old guy?

Maybe you could take some pictures or another nova you own to show him your not going to use and abuse it and actually give it tlc and take it back to its former glory. Tell him you will make him a photo folder of the restoration work if thats what you plan to do.

Well thats my two pence in the matter.
