Connor

Plans are, Inspect fully and deal with any rust/rot,
Stage 1 (due to budget)
-get another standard mk2 rear bumper
-get gsi skirt
-spray bumpers and skirts and boot grab handle satin black
-fit sri blue front seats
-find suitable wheels and buy and fit them
-ebay coilovers (for now)
Then stage 2 involves less interior and a bigger engine (undecided yet)
Stage 3 - go crazy, fully stripped out and lairy engine (will 98% not happen lol)
Comments appreciated :d

Scott

Used a heat gun
quite hard to describe but I done it in bits and generally heated say an eighth of the bumper really quickly then concentrate it around 30cm in layers all the way down, can really describ how fast but you will see it, and then work all the way round the bumper. Can't reply explain that well but all I can say is practises on an old bumper or boot grab handle etc, once done it looks really good but don't let it get too hot otherwise it bubbles lol

Connor
11-11-10, 01:49 AM
The cost is being split and not sure of the total but it should be alot.
And the reason we chose megajolt is because the idea of our project at uni is to design and build a bike throttle body kit for the 16se engine

Connor
12-11-10, 01:35 AM
Okay so the project has been accepted (got a b- for the proposal :d)
So drove over to draper who gave me a spare inlet manifold and head. You will be receiving your stellas saturday :thumb: :d :thumb:
I needed the manifold to measure up and create a 3d model of it on solidworks to analyse the flow and design etc, and the bare head is purely used as a jig for macking and fabbing up the new exhaust and inlet manifolds, anyways made the templates for the flanges for the new manifolds today and also got a few measurements including the old exhaust gaskets as reference so they fit anyways heres a couple of pics

Connor

Yea, going to strip most it down, check the big ends and lifters etc,
but will be very strapped for time so wont be tarting it up or painting my bay, that will have to wait

For the price of bearings and rings, would it not be worth replacing whilst its in bits?

Yes but i think i will be buying a bare 16se head and block and rebuilding it when i get chance and putting it in soon as i can.
Me and rushing = fail imo
Only reason i am rushing to get this one in is because i am need it for my uni project. If it fails on me, it will be a kick in the teeth, just wanting it to last temporary. Doesnt help that i am spending 95% of my time in Derby and have no acces to tools storage etc, so i get the 5% to bash out as much work as i can when i am home from uni

1.6 can still be plenty grin factor!

I would very much like a go in it when it is in cause I've never driven a standard 1.6 so would be good to see what they are like!

Ahh well today started off badly, my mate who was giving us a lift to my uncles garage where my car is kept (45mins drive) pulled out to illness :gay: .
So a 15minate jog to the train station followed by a mild heart attack whilst asking for a ticket lol lol lol
But the rest of the day went pretty good, got a majority of the wiring done, all the throttle/clutch cables and speedo drive connected up.
Then got round to fitting my new fuel tank aswell.
Got a little holdback now as i got a few plugs i didnt know what the hell they plugged into lol
Anyways heres a few random pics from today :-

Got a few hours done on the nova today. Basically finishing little bits off and ticking off jobs on the to-do list. Also finally finished up fitting the tank and found a place to put the fuel pump and filter and one of the lines is already done, just one more line to do, plus i got reeaaaaaaalllly confused with the wiring, then i realised i printed off the wrong wiring diagram on autodata ffs!!! :tosser: lol . With the right diagram its starting to make sence lol

Whats happened??

Connor
06-01-11, 09:04 PM
Gear linkage popped out, literally at the end of my road, drove it back from colchester (45mins away) no problem. I now have my car parked outside and waiting for my mate to come round with a jack and two axle stands to put it back on

Balley
06-01-11, 09:26 PM
Lol oh well atleast its a easy fix

Connor
06-01-11, 09:32 PM
Yea although linkage went i'm chuffed that in general the engine ran spot on for the journey home and in general its pretty good.
Only other problem is that the exhaust is rediculously loud so i will be putting silencers in it tommorow

Iain
06-01-11, 09:35 PM
Glad to hear it's going smoothly, my 1600 was pretty reliable too.

Balley
06-01-11, 10:04 PM
Why is it loud??

Connor
07-01-11, 10:27 AM
Cheers Iain, its going smoothish atm, just little things need doing, thats why i took it for a drive home, it revs up fine but on idle is running a little lumpy and doesnt like to start very well on cold start.
And Dan the reason its loud is because of this:
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/hs036.snc6/166617_480437779925_637964925_6091197_4965108_n.jp g

Plans are, Inspect fully and deal with any rust/rot,
Stage 1 (due to budget)
-get another standard mk2 rear bumper
-get gsi skirt
-spray bumpers and skirts and boot grab handle satin black
-fit sri blue front seats
-find suitable wheels and buy and fit them
-ebay coilovers (for now)
Then stage 2 involves less interior and a bigger engine (undecided yet)
Stage 3 - go crazy, fully stripped out and lairy engine (will 98% not happen lol)
Comments appreciated :d i have a mk2 front and rear bumper?

Rad hose decided that it didnt like the taste of antifreeze/k-seal no more so it spat it out lol

Problem it was whilst i was driving home from uni 120mile away from my destination (my home). After an argument with aa people who were trying to charge me 350pounds to pick me up, i decided to try and fix it. LUCKILY i had a tiny bit of gaffa tape to limp me to the nereast petrol garage where i bought a massive reel of it.
http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/217392_10150148369549926_637964925_6796372_2909530 _n.jpg
After a long drive home of constantly stopping and re-gaffing and filling with water every 5 miles or so, i got home, then the Hassell brothers (Calamity Josh & spunkeymonkey on here) sorted me with a new rad hose free of charge along with a shed load of random nova parts. So its all fixed now :)
That is all

Connor

I not actually certain but at a guess. I parked my car outside mine in the road because i picked up a spare set of alloys for it which i got off a scrap mk4 astra :):

Then i am guessing i must of wacked the headrest into the windscreen which cracked it. but not overly sure tbh. Cost me 75quid fitted which isnt that bad imo, but now i havent got my top tint anymore :(

AlexW
12-04-11, 11:14 AM

Iain
20-04-11, 05:24 PM
True at least you don't ruin brand new stuff lol Whenever you want, waiting on some gearbox seals to try and stop the diff plate leaking but other than that any time

Connor
20-04-11, 05:28 PM
Txt me when you got the gearbox seals done. Thankfully (for you) i will deporting back down south permanently after 3-4 weeks as i finish my course (i hope) so definitely need to go out in it before then :)
Also if you need a hand with anything give us a shout as gives me an excuse not to do these assignments :p

Riiiiiiiiight, so seeing as there is an update with the forum i feel the need to update this thread.
After deciding the car was to come off the road winter time for a rebuild, i decided to just use it as it is untill then, unfortunately this lack of TLC and the harshness of the winter (and the midlands weather lol) its taken its toll on the old girl. And last week the headgasket decided to cr4p itself lol. Causing the lovely mayo style oil, it also caused it to run on 2/3 cylinders, the cap also decided it didnt want to stay on my header tank and came off creating a pretty fountain of boiling engine coolant lol. Anyhow, from this point, i decided it was time the old girl needed to come off the road, after slowly building up a rather large list of jobs doing for the next mot (next month fyi) and it didnt seem viable to repair to try and scrape through, so a garage has been sourced and the poor thing is now waiting, to be stripped and rebuilt. I intend on welding and eliminting all rust issues, weld in a 6 point cage, and respray in and out, and go all gay and fit a c20xe, i have purchased a crappy corsa c as a uni runabout whilst the nova is off the road and it is going to be a slow project as going to be on a very strict budget
Heres some milky goodness for you
