As above doing me 1st 1/4 mile weather depening again :( im running no nitrous yet and just some yoki a048 tyres on 15inch steels i will be dropping them down to around 12psi? i have jacked the rear up so that the weight is over the front as much as possible but should i up the pressure in the rear tyres?? any help appreciated!

yup up rear pressure reduces drag

get as narrow as poss too, standard 13s at 50psi on the rear

Yes big pressure in the rears. make the centre bulge so there is less rolling resistance. Play with the front pressures, as the low pressures may well help with getting a good start, the increased resistance will hinder the later part of the the run.

Whats the general times for a V6? 14 flat ish? Or high 13s?

All ive seen have been driven by lepers, and have barely been in the 14s! lol

i ran about 10psi in the front mate on my let and found over normal presures it took about .4 of a second of which could be the difference between a mid 13 or a low 14 in your case for me it was the difference from a 13.3 to a 12.9!

another thing is get the rear suspension as hard as possable as this counteracts the weight switch you get on take off and hense gives more traction of the line

another good tip is stage second (if at the pod) reason for this is i find you can almost get a slight rolling start which helps with traction when you get the first stage light hold it on the handbreak with your revs at about 3k or what ever you launch with and slip the clutch slightly to keep you moving very slowly and if you stage second then as soon as you get the second stage light they should go straight to green nearly straight away then drop the clutch and handbreak and away you go
reason i say this is if you stage first and your in a parked position waiting to go you tend to get nerves no mater how many times you have run the strip and thats when your likely to fluf it also as your ready for the off and you know as soon as you get the second stage light your at an advantage because you know the green will follow nearly instantly

look at the tyre see what it will take max and put that in on the rear

wont make a huge difference but all helps

really to get the best traction you want to be looking into getting some 888r's or some m.t street et's 205/50/15 let them down to anywhere between 10 and 8 psi.
also check your fuel pressure, v6's seem to like it best around 3.5 bar! but i wideband would tell you for sure.

Out of curosity, how do people find V6 Novas in general? Been thinking about one but I'm unsure how usable they'd be.

Sorry for thread jacking Nobby, hope you kick as!

i think ours is fantastic, so much usable torque, goes well, sounds fantastic and does good mpg taking it easy!

DO you find it front end heavy or a bit giddy on the rear end?

i think if you go daft into roundabouts you could probably lift the rear wheel but in general i think it handles ok!

Handles like sh!t compared to an XE, but I wouldn't have another 4cyl Nova.

Power and torque wise, compared to an XE, the 152cid (2.5) V6 isn't that much more powerful (168/166 to 150/144), and the peak torque is only 600rpm lower on the V6. The 180cid (3.0) is more like LET power though (210/199) and peak torque is around 3300rpm, so much lower down the range. Mine is a 3.0 so I can't comment on the XE > 152 step up, but the XE > 180 step is massive.

You can make a V6 handle, but if you extended the same time/effort/money on an XE, it would handle better. I just like the fact I can go from 25mph to 1## without changing gear lol

[edit] MPG aspect - I get on average about 27mpg out of mine, although I've stretched that to 35mpg when being careful. Again, compared to an XE, I used to get ~35, and up to 40 when being careful.

just got home guys what fukin nightmare!!! Got to Avon Park sound 1st time up the 1/4 mile did a 14.0 not bad but room for improvment, 2nd go 1st then 2nd the 3rd and the gear linkage poped and had to get towed off the strip!! :( I then popd it back on and put some tiestraps round it thinking it would only happen once. So went back round again and it happend again but i managed to keep it in gear and drive off the strip! So then put a jubilee clip on and all seemed fined but then 2/3 up the strip i couldnt get 3rd!! Doing my fukin head in and could only manage a 14.7 really peed me off grrrr!! Was pleased with the 14.0 on my 1st run though!
