help please

I'm off to see a nova tomorrow and I'm not sure about what/where to look out for problems, except from rust everywhere of course. Any help would be much appreciated. :)

Look for the main rust areas, front inner wings/arches, battery tray, firewall, chassis legs, sills and rear arches, if you take it for a test drive make sure the engine is cold, listen for any clunks knocks or odd noises from the steering/suspension and the usual things. What engine is it?

check for damp in the footwells and boot carpet also :)

^ that's a good point, check the boot floor in the corners under the lights and the spare wheel well etc.

Basically, check EVERYWHERE!!! lol

Another common place is under the driver and passenger floor where the front chassis legs are welded. Tend to go at the joins.

oh and where the rear spring seat is.

but if its 8v them engines are pretty bomb proof so you should be fine

it is a 1988 mk1 1.2 so i would guess that it is an 8v? and thanks for the information, i will try and look out for all of the above tomorrow

any standard nova is 8v.

actually remove the battery..... then you will see the rot....

Stand on the roof & bash the hell out of the car with a shovel. Any rot hiding in the thing will fall out the bottom into a pile under the car.
