you all know the ****ter im on about, that rotten saloon ive got :p well the plan is to take it to pv this year so thought i would take some pics as i go, not much to look at at the mo

in its tiny space in the garage next to the stripped gte shell

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0234.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0233.jpg

currently home for this pesky animal

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0232.jpg

didnt actually get much done but shoved it back so i could get around the front and dropped the shocks and hubs off as the ones from the estate will be going onto it.

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0238.jpg

i also gave it its first wash in 3 years to see how screwed the paint was, sides are actually fine as is the boot but found this on the roof :(

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0236.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0237.jpg

or in other words knackered, meh feck it, ill build it and abuse it and it can have some fresh paint in a few years

anywho it was dark out so couldnt take the hubs and that off the estate so took my FREE seats in to clean them up

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0235.jpg

fecking covered in cat hair that made me feel like ****e but they came up OK

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0241.jpg

dodgy stains aren't there other than in the pics

anywho more will be done tomorrow

lol i had them astra gte wheels on my nova 4x4 project when i had an xe in it lol

whats the plans luke you having a striped out set up if so im getting rid of the ally dash i had in the 4x4 if you want it

burgo
14-05-10, 01:47 AM
ahhh yesh it was you that had the gte wheels, you still got them? lol.

yups ubber stripped out, so much so an ally dash would weigh to much :p, standard clocks cable tied in FTW, plus if the ally dash was designed for a standard nova bulkhead it probably wont fit mine.

I love your blue nova saloon :D lol Quick get it Done! , From Mandai trying lol

anywho update, now i woulda probably got more done but ended up doing a load of housework this afternoon :wtf::wtf:

its probably at this moment i should also mention i plan to lob it together to get it MOT'd asap, hence using lots of bits off the estate as i know they are fine, once its mot'd i can start tarting it up ready for pv

first things first was i needed the struts, hubs and brakes off the estate, i also figured satin black wings would look better on the saloon than cream ones hence swapping them aswell.

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0246.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0247.jpg

didnt take long once sam came home with a 30mm for the hub nuts lol.

all bolted on the saloon

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0248.jpg

and back on the floor

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0249.jpg

with that done it was time to turn my attention to the back end as this is where all the work is, lots of work required on the boot floor, also needs the tank and pump fitting so up in the air it goes

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0251.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0252.jpg

wheels off ready for the beam to come off

by this time my back was caining so thats it for today.

burgo
16-05-10, 12:15 AM
didnt get a chance to do much today as had to go and clear the unit.

so just dropped the beam off and started poking lol

Axel stands on the sill? Dude!

Looks like your have some work, but having seen your skills i know you'll crack it thru and nicely.the sill need work anyway so im not bothered if they take the paint off, once all around the tank and beam is done and they are back on ill support it via the beam

Chassis leg is always better than the sills but you know that.

What's the plan all the rust sorted then start on the insides?

burgo
16-05-10, 01:47 PM
yes i know that but i want to work on the chassis legs lol

yes its only surface rust so will attack it all with the wire brush and then treat it before fresh underseal, the plan is to just get it sorted for its MOT first before worrying about making it look pretty lol

Should be a cool project :thumb:

couldnt be arsed to get to grubby today so did abit in the engine bay

started by cleaning all round the bulkhead before putting the servo and wiper motor back in, i was a tit and put the wiper motor in before the servo, which doesnt work apparently lol. after i did that i decided to de-baxter the engine :p

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0265.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0267.jpg

i know its not a great deal but some is better than none when you've got this much todo, ill probably go out and start to sort out the engine loom later anyway :d

John
16-05-10, 09:02 PM
Good stuff Luke, forgot you had this!

burgo
17-05-10, 11:32 PM
what fun ive had today, the task was to get the engine loom finished and i did :d

this is what i started with

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0268.jpg

first i cleaned up the injectors and rail before re-tapping the mini loom to make it all tidy

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0269.jpg

no not strictly the wiring this had to be done now, so found a suitable pipe to remove the heater matrix piping

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0271.jpg

and then the fun begins

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0272.jpg

not any pics of how i changed the loom to fit but it does lol, i also decided to hide it within a pipe aswell so it looks like there no wiring at all

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0273.jpg

and inside

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0274.jpg

i placed the powerbox on aswell to see how it looked, now bare in mind everything is plugged in so that in theory it would run, done a pretty good job of hiding it all even if i do say so myself

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0275.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0278.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0279.jpg

being as that was done i attacked the arch with the drill and then kurust

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0280.jpg

decided my back had had enough by now so that'll do for today

21-05-10, 02:59 AM
well today was started by cutting my brothers doors off for him then setting him on releaving the gte shell of its seat mounts :d

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0288.jpg

with that done i decided to get my loom fitted, all hidden away naturally

attaching the rear half to a wire to pull through the sill

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0289.jpg

coming up here (yes my sills are lush)

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0290.jpg

there it is

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0292.jpg

sam fitting it back into the rear panel

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0293.jpg

also placed my seat in, this is actually how it is going to sit, i love how low it is, bare in mind the top of my head sits the same level as the top of the seat :d

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0294.jpg

this one is more for southie, my lighting wiring, fan, horn and stuff is actually all fitted here ;), also re routing my bonnet pull as well

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0295.jpg

where it all hides, will get a better pic of the bonnet pull cable once its finished

decided to do the work to allow me to fit the fuel tank today which meant sorting this

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0260.jpg

forgot to take any pics of whilst doing it but basically cut generously around it, plated it and then drilled the new breather pipe hole

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0407.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0408.jpg

then lobbed on some random paint (brazil brown FTW)

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0410.jpg

then underseal

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0413.jpg

done (ish), ignore random hose lol

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0416.jpg

i then undersealed around where the tank goes

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0412.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0414.jpg

then lobbed the tank in, the tank may get painted if i have time

27-05-10, 12:39 AM
my extension of the bonnet cable is almost complete, just need a choc block to join the cables

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0417.jpg

also lobbed the head lights in

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0418.jpg

new master cylinder that me brother robbed for me bolted in

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0420.jpg

the fuel lines also all hooked up

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0419.jpg

i also spent hours and hours getting the loom basically finished, pretty much just the main power lead to hook up now, no pics of this as its boring lmfao

Are you gonna be running the lhd bonnet pull then? How come the join the cable is huge, i had to cut loads out of mine.
Good work with the cable and loom, i love hiding the loom in the sill, very trick.no bonnet pull is in the normal place lol hence the join as ive had to use two bonnet cables

i decided to try and get the seat mounted today, tis confusing and very awkward being as im bolting directly and not using mounts. because of how late i started i only got the back bar in lol, front one will be in tomorrow

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0429.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0434.jpg

i then decided to start throwing some paint around, because i couldnt find the colour i wanted in the book i went for silver - 02  dark metalic silver anyway

bonnet pull connected and works pukka as well :d

Why didn't you run the bonnet pull down the drivers side?
Only reason mine was a bit of a pain was because i didn't want any of it in the bay, its long enough that you can still fit it in the std way (thru the slam)...

Just an fyi, insides paint is good. All the insides going all black?

today i bolted the beam on and started playing about with various shocks and springs to see how low i can run, it was at the point i noticed one of my rear billies is screwed  which is a fecker as they are the only ones that go low enough. anywho some pics of fooking about

my brother bolted on his wheel to see how silly it would look lol

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0437.jpg

very silly, so then wheeled it out to see how it was sitting

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0445.jpg

fairly low but no where near low enough for my liking, looks well though out of the garage

i then thought i would see how low i sit in it, to be fair this is without the seat foam but i facking love being this low, with the foam im about an inch higher.

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0446.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0449.jpg

we then pushed it back in and decided to see how low the fks could potentially go

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0453.jpg
would need **** loads of work to run this low, the sill is 80mm off the floor like this, with 14's and lower profile tyres i hope to get that to 50mm off the floor :D thats the plan for billing

another pic of the back

Awesome work! Loving the lowness! And haha at you sitting that low...

I have the prob with the saloon arches, that it doesn't look as low cause the arch lips sits so much higher than the hatch (where it follows the tyre) if that makes sense.. Sill to floor is lowness is good.

the surprising thing with it that low is how wasy it is to get in and out of still

Lovin the drivers position! I've still got my old tubs if u want them? Rears r easy to get low its the fronts that r a pain.you say that, i either need to modify my chassis legs or beam lol. let me have a look at clearance tomorrow and ill pm you

The Simps

On the rear the beam is gonna be constantly in the top part of its arc. The chassis leg isnt too much of a problem (from memory) its the shape of the inner arch. Ideally beam mounts need moving up & tubbing ideally.

The front ur wing lips will need sorting and ul need to tub the inner wing to run low low.

80mm is very low, let alone 50mm. Mines being setup at 100mm ride height and its gonna need major work. That is on 17s running a 598mm diam.

burgo
28-05-10, 11:47 PM
the beam is actually pointing up lol, the handbrake cable guide is only about 5mm from the chassis leg so will probably come into contact, another part is close to the lower inner arch seem so needs fetling aswell.

the main issue on the front is the inner arch is going to need cutting and moving lol which is crazy.

not sure what my diameter is, ive got 185/55/15's at the mo

this is only going to be my show set up, every day running will be much higher

The Simps
29-05-10, 12:12 AM
You'll be about 585mm.

I forgot about the cable mounts.

I'm on iphone at mo but i'll postsome pics tomorrow of how much i chopped away. You'll have to have it rock hard to limit your movement.

Whether you can tub the fronts depends on what uve got in the way i suppose ie afm, filter.

burgo
29-05-10, 12:38 AM
its only the backs of the arches by the splash guards where it touches, even then ive got a plan for the engine which means theres nothing on the inner arches either if it comes to that aswell

Benn
29-05-10, 09:47 AM
Roll the arch lip out flat, give the arch a better look and is much flatter so the tyre tucks up in there nice. Looks much better too.

Notch the chassis lip where the hand brake cable sits, you only need a small cut out, mine's about 5mm and works on.

The Simps
29-05-10, 12:48 PM
Been thinking about the beam - can u not raise the back plate and add strengthening behind it so it sits level again?

ive got another beam which i could do that to, would mean not so ridiculous shocks and springs i guess, also means i can modify the handbrake guide instead of having to touch the chassis. hmmmm watch this space :d

well i did go out there at half one lol, proof

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0455.jpg

i decided to get my new pulley on and get the engine timed up, this took me literally hours down to not having the correct tools :( but got there in the end

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0459.jpg

then decided to fit my freshly acquired corsa rad

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0458.jpg

fail one - couldnt get the fan off

fail two - hose take off facking fell off, i twisted the hose and off came the outlet as well :mad::mad: not best pleased, means i have to try and use the tiny baxtered rad instead

being as the fail was strong at this point i decided to do something easy and set about getting some grey primer on the A-pillars, **** **** treble ****:mad::mad: bludy reacted and i got overspray over the scuttle panel, my phone and camera.

so in 3 and half hours ive basically achieved feck all so came in to sulk

well this shiny big sheet of ally turned up today which kinda spurred me on to get my **** into gear today

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0462.jpg

started by chopping out the floor

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0463.jpg

then neatened it all up

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0465.jpg

i figured this was a good time to clean up the chassis legs as well

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0466.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0473.jpg

then bolted on the 'powerbox' and connected and plumbed it in and cable tied the wires out the way

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0467.jpg

used a part of the shell tagging left over to make a battery cut off switch mount, the welding looks crap in the pic :S

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0468.jpg

and then the main fuse up here, this will be hidden

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0469.jpg

then through some more paint around ready for the back windows to go back in

more goodies arrived today :d the ally for the dash panel and the rear window seals

started by cleaning around the windows and then cleaning the windows before fitting them

old skool glass FTW

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0477.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0478.jpg

i also made a template for the boot floor, shortened my steering column and half way through making the mounting brackets. also started making the brake lines, fiddled with the suspension some more lol and general tinkering. im getting there slowly

boot floor ally cut to shape and fitted
both doors need building back up
seat mounts finished
steering column mounts
gear linkage
hand brake
fit dash ally
fit all the front end panels and bumper
bleed brakes
finish wiring
then get the fooker running

they are only 3 inchs tall lol

this has it sitting here

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0520.jpg

and still got loads of suspension travel

plenty of clearence on the handbrake guide

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0523.jpg

angle of the beam is errr interesting

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0524-1.jpg

with that sorted i started on the boot floor

cut to fit

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0525.jpg

i then put a bead of sealer all the way round and placed the panel in, then rivited at every 2 inches

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0526.jpg

and underneath

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0527.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/pv%20project/SAM_0528.jpg

because of the natural bend of the floor it is actually very rigid and doesnt need any more bracing. to say im chuffed with it is an understatement and the huge space under there now is begging for a proper diffuser

with the success of the floor i moved onto the dash panel

No floor! I have deja vu! Lol

good luck with this. To do it right the rears will need tubbing and new beam mounts fabricating higher up. The front will need the inner wings raised/tubbed and either turrets raised or some very expensive coilovers! The front suspension points will need raising (which will also help your clearance). Easy! Lol

if you need a hand cutting out anymore metal i'm happy to help. Gotton pretty good at it now!

already arranged to go and pick up some new turrets and bottom arm mounting points as mine has the strengthening kit on so might be a **** to get off. i already know the fronts will need tubbing lol probably cut them out tomorrow. i plan to not only move my turrets up but back by about an inch whilst im at it. the other thing i need to make is a new rear gearbox mount, should be fun.

the backend didnt rub around the top with how low i had it at pv and i plan to go smaller wheels aswell so hoping i wont have a problem with that.

instead of moving the beam mounts up im moving the the hub mounting points higher, although having said that i may do a mixture of both to give the diffuser more clearance.

another thing that occurred to me whilst looking at it earlier, raising the bottom arm mounting points will in effect be similar to lowering the tie rod mounting points, so hopefully ill get some of the same anti-dive characteristics, we shall see i guess

Are you gonna try and lower the arm mounts too?

burgo
25-06-10, 11:57 AM
no im raising the arm mounts benn as they sit extremely low and by raising them it means my bottom arms should sit flat again instead of pointing up.

well after measuring here and there and getting it right in my head i then built up the courage to attack my car with the grinder lol

cutting the original mount point out neatly was awkward as fook but got there and got the new one in and positioned, i then decided it would be best to use some box sectionto add strength into it, it was at this point i ran out of gas

Excellent work dude!

Why you changing the turrets tho? rotten?
quite a few reasons actually,

1. chop out the scaf bar and tie the turrets into the cage properly with proper CDS

2. im moving them back to give me more positive castor

3. im raising them like count did to give me some suspension travel lol

4. there is actually some rot in and around them but thats all chopped out now.

potential 5. i may look at moving them in a little aswell to give me more shock - tyre clearence, need to look at that better though.

will raising them up not cause problems with your shafts sitting to high ???

just a though

good progress :)

burgo
26-06-10, 12:33 AM
raising the bottom arm mounting points makes no difference to driveshaft angle, what it does mean is that my bottom arms will be sitting back level instead of pointing up lol

i was thinking now you have moved the bottom arm up you have move your distance of travel 50 mm (or what ever it is) further up so when hitting a bump you shaft will be a it maxium length before it should be maybe result in pulling it from the box

does that make sence, i does in my head lol

burgo
26-06-10, 12:42 AM
ah i think i get what your getting at now, you mean because the arms were pointing up originally when i hit a bump because of the way the arms move in an ark it would keep the shaft length the same? where as now it has to go from pointing down to straight to up it will effectively lengthen the shaft?

if thats what your getting at i see what you mean and its not something i had actually concidered, if i do get problems with that then i think im going to make adjustable arms anyway so i can just wind them in a little

djbrowney
26-06-10, 12:44 AM
thats exactly what i meant lol

you could do that or just put a new grove in your shaft and move the cv out a bit :)

burgo
26-06-10, 12:46 AM
hmmmm good thinking. well no knowing until its all built back up again but at least i know to check it now some +rep

Don't wish to be mean but there really is an easier route to parallel lower arms than butchering the body. couple of bit's of ally would have done.
