View Full Version : Brake upgrade options?
I want to upgrade the front brakes on the Nova, what are my options?
I only want new and would prefer 4-pot and keep under 15Inch wheels (approx 280mm??) have an approx budget of £600
Thanks
with that budget i would say hi-spec
I'd say avoid Hi-spec
flexible calipers FTL :(
Given a nova weighs similarish to a vx/elise, what about a pair of AP 2pots on 288ish mm discs and some vicious pads like Carbon Lorane 5+'s or similar
try and get a set of the reylands(ap) brakes from the group buy a few years ago. mine were superb.
however there 305mm disc and the caliper would need slight modification to fit under 15"
I'd say avoid Hi-spec
flexible calipers FTL :(
What do you mean by flexible calipers?
its been found in a fair few cases the calipers flex a lot when you step on the brake pedal (I know other calipers will move etc but not at much as the hi-flex ones lol)
You will get a 'good' product from them, eventually... One chap had to go through about 10 iterations of calipers from them before he got what he was happy with.
Is there any particular model? (I hope your not generalising, I am getting this vide alot from this place this evening)
They have a fair few! and all of differing designs.
defiantely the elise 2 pot rear calipers.
and a few of the 'road' range (mostly ultralights).. what they class as race stuff is 'ok'
Thanks :)
Looks like they have problems with the stuff thats not machined from a billet then.
Cheers fella's.
Price wise it seems so far to be between the Hi-Spec and Wilwood kits.

Excellent, do you get sequel?
How well do they stop you?
Pic would be great, more interested in the look of the fitted kit than how they look under a wheel if that makes sense?

nah no squeel and compaired to 256mm there awsome
i used to get brake fade with the 256 ates so went for the willwoods and ive never had fade since they dont half make it stop when you hit them

have a look on benns wip he has will woods to and i think paul has too
Isn't there a clearence issue with the willwood setup?
I am sure I read that some wheels will need spacers because the caliper fouls.
squeal is down to pad material/leading edges etc....
I had moments when 1144's would squeal lol

how easy are the willwood 280mm dynalite 2 kit to fitt does it matter im running small block ?>
Direct fit, no modification according to them. Designed for a 4-stud fitment, so no problem for you.
may I suggest a quick read of the braking article in the articles section ;)
Cheers Stuart...
I 'think' I am going to go for the 280mm Midilite kit.

straight fit as mentioned comes with all brackets and bolts if ordering from rally designs just remember to order the braided hoses too as there different to the standard nova ones and not included with the kit and you will also need to select your pads, you may also need spacers dependent on wheels

How much were they if you don't mind me asking, from rally designs yea ?
if its not too late, I'd suggest changing to 1155's as they last about 3-4 times longer :)
Damn, too late...I'll try them next.
Well, the new front brakes arrived today.
280mm Willwood Billet (I upgraded for forged) Dynalite 4-pot's.
