As per title really, i want to fit my heat wrap to my Ashly manifold, Ive been reading some bit and bobs etc, and theres a allot of people who say dont fit it unless it's the really really expensive good stuff etc, as the cheaper stuff just crumbles off even if silicone coated (Ive bough some of that to put on mine), and Ive also read some say to wet it to apply it first?

so who's put it on, and what procedures did you take etc?

Scott

PS: Admin i didn't think this was so much a mechanical topic, more of need info etc, thats why Ive not posted in mechanical.

Wet the wrap before you fit it.

For starters dont use the silly metal ties that come with the tape stuff! When i did my 4 branch i used jubilee clips lol

Start at the flange end. Do each tube at a time. I'll try and get some pics of mine up.

When I did my previous manifold we used a good quality wrap wet. Then as Pete says do one tube at a time. Pretty good to have two pairs of hands! I found the stainless ties worked fine higher up but used a few jubiless lower down were the wrap came together etc.
Oh and wear some latex gloves otherwise you may find your self itching! Try keep the wrap clean too as it will look much better when finished.

Yeh i done the ashley 4 branch on mine, soacked (sp) the wrap first and done a pipe at a time, starting at the flange and work down, try to keep it tight as well mate, but as it dries it will tighten up and mould to the pipes.

The burning smell and smoke went away after about 30 odd miles, it smokes quite a lot tbh, but dont worry it does stop lol.

I used the car at the weekend, both on the motorway and backroads, so was a good test of the wraps claim to fame, and i must say it does help keep the under bonnet temp down.

dont do wat i did. i did mine in my house wearing trackies and a t-shirt and I didnt wet it first. when dry the fibres seem to go everwhere and once its stuck to your trackies it stays there for at least a dozen washes, couldnt wear them for months cos they were so itchy! i also forgot to switch the washing machine on a seperate wash with them in only and my mum put my wee brother n sisters school clothes in lol wasnt popular in my house for a while.

on the bright side it did keep the under bonnet temps down, just a shame the manifold snapped in half about a week or two later!
still got some spare wrap so might do my new manifold in it but might not.
