View Full Version : GTE clocks in a 1.2. Fine until turn lights on, they go mad!

I just put some GTE clocks in my 1.2 mk1. I ran the wire for the rev counter to the -ve on the coil. It works fine until i switch on the lights. The rev counter drops to Zero and the temp sensor shoots up to max.!?
The temp sensor never used to do that in old clocks. Is it a common thing and easy to fix? Anyone else with the same prob?

Also when this happens the Blue main beam light comes on on the dash when the lights are Actually on dipped beam. And when the lights ARE on main beam the light goes out. (back to front).

thanks.

did u swap the plugs?

as i think the pin outs are different so you need to re wire the plugs........

definitely a connection problem or short somewhere

but it only happens when i turn on the lights. although the oil pressure dial moes when i havn't even got the sender unit installed. i take it the wires are colour coded so can't i look in haynes possibly or just swap wires aroun on the plug i got. i don't know where i can get hold of a GTE plug. the scrappies near me are useless.

would i be better off getting SR clocks instead of GTE? or are they the same wiring still?

I have SR clocks and they go straight in with no wiring mods needed to the block on my 1.2. Just rev counter wire and pressure guage wire need adding or if you have them in your loom just connecting to the spades.
