View Full Version : m/cyl restrictors for rear discs
Just which ones do people use. and which ones actually work???
cos if i'm helping baxter to bleed his brakes thru on wednesday, i'm only doing them once.

3/27 Rings my bell lol
use the restrictors off the same car that the disc conversion came from.
that will be a challenge........... its been knocking about at baxters for a while
and i need to know which ones actually work, not just whats on there....
Mike they'll all work iirc, the numbers relate to the amount of restriction iirc.
this is the point. we all know the discs over brake a nova on the back, so i want to know if the bigger the ratio= the bigger the restriction, or vice versa
yep, bigger ratio bigger restriction iirc. most cavs and calis use 3/22, astras use 3/27.
i always thought the lower the second number, the higher the restriction?

i stand corrected. learn something every day.
here we use 3/20 or 3/25 (depends if it's stripped out).
tbh i never seen a nova that brakes well with rear disks. they get tailhappy.
this one has baxter working the front end..... it will be fairly well balanced
I have some 3/27 which I thought were low tbh I have never seen any lower, what are 3/20 found on?
From my experience no OE vauxhall restrictor does the job, Nova's are just too light on the back end. The only way to do it properly is to run an inline bias valve. We did this on Dans and its absolutely spot on, but its wound nearly all the way shut!
Doesn't a bias valve mean running one brake line to the rear though?

Not always, depends what you buy. Cheapest ones are yes.

I would never ever trust a £3 ebay bias valve, if that seal fail, you faillol

The axle has been with baxter since a week last saturday when I dropped it off - he doesnt have the restrictors as they stayed on craig's old car that count_vaux has now.
I would mount an adjustable bias valve in the car, then he can adjust it as he goes along. We could never get a rear disc setup right on our rally car when we tried to run it on a standard setup. Suggested this to Baxter but he liked the idea of the back end locking up lol

I never said that cheap lol

mines seems OK, when they work,
seeing as iv got full interior and 2 extra doors, lol
i found the fronts still locking up before the backs mind :)

Mk2 astra gte 16v's and cavs iirc Graeme.
ive got a pair for mine from a mk2 astra 16v (non abs setup) which are 3/20

Mine can be a tad twitchy, I spun and went sideways loads on track last year LOL
I left the std ones in mine and have never had a prob. Never been light or anything.
I know run one line to the rears tho, to try and improve the front/whole feel and braking.

Cheers John but I think the chances of finding a set of these are slim to none these days
Get looking on astra mk2/ebay, just find people breaking gte 16v. Ask them if its an origional gte with rear discs and no abs. Thats how i found mine

It was my beam. I ran a single rear brake line with a Wilwood bias valve, almost wound shut as Lee says it & suffered no issues whatsoever. That was on a dual output Corsa MC. But I have always figured if I put it on a regular Nova MC I would want Astra GTE rear proportioning valves. Not as easy as it sounds though as most GTE's had ABS. SO you need an early donor car or a Cav SRi with no ABS.

When there is 100 bar on the front brakes...
3/25 = 47.5 bar
3/27 = 48.9 bar
3/35 = 54.5 bar
3/40 = 58 bar
