Your heavy foot lol
What size front calipers?

General Baxter
09-05-10, 04:17 PM
who wants to come and bleed them for me next week?

before the for sale thread comes?

there 2L ate 256's on the front

Andy

Im not insulting your intelligence but how are you bleeding them?

General Baxter
09-05-10, 04:19 PM
1/2 pump, and with the down pump open the nipple. close the nipple, let the pedal go, open, pump, and so on,

but theres nothing comming out the M/c on the n/s/f and o/s/r again, its allways this one

kent14sr

was it the same (no output to nsf/osr) on 1st master cylinder?

General Baxter
09-05-10, 04:21 PM
yep

Andy

Have you tried using one of those one man bleed kits,i cant recommend them enough and theyre only £6
I pumped by hand gently with the bleed nipple cracked 2/3rds of a turn and it bled fine with that pipe thing on

Have you tried bleeding nsf and osr from the end of the relevant brake pipe? (rather than caliper)

General Baxter
09-05-10, 04:23 PM
yep chased it back and there nothing comming out the m/c again

Dont bother opening and closing the nipple, just open the nipple, and do full pumps down and up until the fluid comes through, then revert back to your original method.

iv been told never to full pump it

Thats got to be a master cylinder fault Nick - but its weird how its done the same on 2 different master cylinders . .

This is just since you put the rear discs on isnt it?

Stop dicking about with the pedal and bleed it with a eezi bleed kit

Andy
09-05-10, 04:26 PM
They usually blow the seals when the pedal is stomped on straightaway

Benn

Is the seal fitting right? That pin thing that moves ok? Seems odd you've funked two up.

Those £6 one man bleed kits from Halfords are great in my opinion - just a pipe with a non return valve in. Still use pedal (gently) but never had an issue with them.

2nded,i bled mine up with new, empty v6 calipers on the front in 10mins-including a fluid change to dot5

Lee
09-05-10, 04:36 PM
iv been told never to full pump it

Ive always bled up a new system like that and never had an issue

General Baxter

what is this bleed crap then,

a bit of pipe with a valve ?

Adam
09-05-10, 04:44 PM
No, its a compressed air kit, it runs off a wheel/tyre... (make sure its got 10psi max in it though....)

Basically, it does all the pump itself, you just open nipple, watch bubbles, close nipple, done.

The brake bar behind the dash attaches to the pedal with an adjustable threaded link. Could this be over adjusted & pushing the MC too far?

so you mean the £20 kits not the £6 tube ?

One of these...http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_20 4645_langId_-1_categoryId_165469

Sounds like you still have air in the system, hence blowing seals maybe?

Adam
09-05-10, 05:19 PM
Yes its £15/£20 but worth it

kent14sr
09-05-10, 05:44 PM
Both types are good - to be honest I have both and prefer the £6 type with a non return valve (just personal preference)

Baxter - just get down Halfords and get one of the above!!

Same, i full pump the pedal when bleeding.

jusat a thought, have you changed the pressure valve things between the 2 cylinders? if so is one of them goosed?

mowgli
09-05-10, 09:36 PM
nick, i will try to get round for a go at the bleeding brakes..but it won't be till about wednesday.

General Baxter
09-05-10, 10:47 PM
i wont have the servo till tuesday anyway

mowgli

see you wednesday then....

burgo

are you using new or second hand master cylinders?

mowgli
10-05-10, 02:20 PM
he's mostly using large boots & not topping it up every 2 seconds by the sounds....

also which ratio m/c restrictors should be used for a rear disc conversion???

burgo
10-05-10, 02:22 PM
just the reason i ask is a master cylinder can develop a lip internally at the edge of the normal travel of the piston, the older it is the worse the lip. obviously when bleeding you can push the piston past this lip and damage the seal

mowgli
10-05-10, 02:26 PM
yes, he's using s/hand ones.....

General Baxter
10-05-10, 05:31 PM
this is why im only pushing it 1/2 way ;)

burgo
10-05-10, 07:18 PM
this is why im only pushing it 1/2 way ;)but you are supposed to put the pedal under alot of pressure when you undo the nipple so therefore cant help but end up pushing it all the way to the floor

Rich

open the nipple, fully pump up and down SLOWLY until its complete clear fluid coming out with no air bubbles. Then hold the pedal down and close the nipple. Start at the drivers rear, pass rear, drivers front, pass front. You might have to go round the car a couple of times

he's mostly using large boots & not topping it up every 2 seconds by the sounds....

And keep the fluid topped up, if it drops you will be starting over again!
