Hopefully myself and rexy are going to sort it:)
So, rexy, how much? lol
also, it needs to take endless amounts of buffing, for the ultimate shine:d
you want three good coats then. or use UHS with base and clear.

with primer dont you mix the primer hardner and thinners
colebag
08-05-10, 06:25 PM
say if you was to use 1lt of primer how much thiners and hardner would i mix with it
2:1 + 10% maybe 20% totally dependant on application and your intentions.
i use primer 4:1
i also use primer 2:1/30% for wet on wet. you could use it 5:1 even 6:1 its totally dependant what u buy etc.
I always spray it naked, it seems to go off faster and flats better than if i spray it when clothed. Ive tried doing it half naked but the results can vary so best bet is to paint totally in the buff.

you can use water based primer with cellulose, i asked about cellulose primer at my local paint making shop and they said they can do it if i want them to but it will cost a tenner a can and water based would more than suffice, so best to check it out first!
oh and i did indeed use the water based primer with cellulose sprayed over the top and it worked fine!
This thread is great!
I haven't mixed primer up in ages, when it did it last weekend i mixed it wrong.. Was like jelly.. hahaha
Was like jelly.. hahaha

Well it wasn't that thick, lol but was to thick.. Felt a right tw$t, didn't even think about what i was doing just cracked on a mixed it up then thought "hhmm this isn't right.."lol

If you are gonna use 2k be sure to have good ventilation and a good respirator. I can't stress this enough. Also would highley recomend goggles. 2 coats of primer should be fine. Lots of lacuer is needed before colour sanding/buffing. At least and I mean least 3 coats.
I buy my supplies from http://thecustompaintshop.com/

ye i got the ventilation sorted.what so you have to lacuer the primer?i have neva done that before

no you dont laquer primer!!
that defeats the object
CoolTiger

laquer is only for the shine and the so the base doesnt wash off lol
A twin filter mask is enough when painting. I've never worn googles either..lol
oh so you flattened down your jelly 2 pack? did it take long? lol
Nah was it was mixed it didnt look right so i binned it and started again. 3-1-1.. Cant believe i for got it.
go to border automotive to get your primer etc. there located in hereford and shrewsbury. heres the site. www.borderautomotivepaints.com/ (http://www.borderautomotivepaints.com/) (http://www.borderautomotivepaints.com)
i bought all my stuff to paint my car from there, i bought epoxy primer which is an anti corrosive one(you'll just want normal primer) and it had a high build quality to it. that was 11pound a litre, the thinners were around 10pound and hardener was around 7pound. its mixed 2:1 and 10percent. they can mix the primer to a similar colour to the final finish colour so when you apply the top coat it comes out better. have a look in my WIP thread in my sig.
also ask them for the data sheet for the primer, gives you all the info you need of mixing, applying, how long it takes to dry, sanding it etc etc.
