Right, im going to start this to spur me on a little lol

It all started at my first png meeting in the NW last year, turned up to SRS-1's house, all clad with my £8 jeans, and £3 asda tshirt on.

We had a chat for about 40 mins, then he offered me a "Scare" so he said, I immediately jumped in his xe, and we went to meet Huffy at a local halfords.

So, meh, this is kinda nice I thought, no interior, no carpet or anything, harnesses on, and he fired her up, instantly I had a huge grin:d

Off up the road we went, 30mph for ages, then the motorway sliproad came, and yup, he gunned it.

I was in awwe tbh, one of the quickest cars I had been in tbh.

Then After afew more months, I spoke to offplot, about building a c20xe, he said he had 2 cars up forsale, So I went up to see him, bought one there and then. Its a red, mk1, C reg, 1986 1.0, with loads of owners, but was mechanically very very good, and came with 6 months mot IIRC

We knew it needed welding etc, but not being phased by it, I thought it wouldnt take much, 2 arches, 2 doors, 2 wings, rear pannel, and front upper pannel, This didnt seem like much on paper lol

Afew days after the car was dropped off, I removed engine etc, then he said he had an OMP 6 point, 50mm cage, so off We tootled, in the humble 1.0 shed, and came back with more goodies.

Upto now Its been stripped to a bare shell, and under the arches etc have been stripped where needed, welded, and hammerite rust eartered.

The cage is 90% fitted, all spreader plates etc are in, just needs Some more bolts etc fitting.

The bay was stripped by myself and sean, and he did the majority of the welding, seeing as neither of us could weld, its not too bad lol

Upto now the bay is in primer, with no upper pannel.

Under the arches is hammerite rust removered, and all the suspention etc has been removed.

Most of the bits to finish it I have.

All I need to buy, is an ali rad, full hose kit, and shiny bits as and when lol

Heres a couple of pics from when it first came home to me...

Ok, :wtf: , Matt it won't be any easier until its painted and mechanically built, but it'll all be worth it in the end if a Nova is what you want, I'm currently not having fun either, sitting in a quiet unit scrapping off stonechip but it isn't going to do itself is it?

Its not too bad i suppose...

2 arches, and inner lips
2 wings
2 doors
Inner splash guard on passenger side, leading into firewall, so a cnut
Rear pannel
Dent in a pillar
Dent in roof
Bumpers need full strip and prep

Update time guys:d

Right, went over to the garage again today (18 miles away)

Had a visit from asa, and his friend, who's name always escapes melol

Stole a GTE system, then buggered offlol

Then we got on with it, bought some red hammerite, and some rust eatery stuff, and did all the inner arches, and underneath at the front, and did some of the legs etc.

http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/xx16/MattBrown9600/C811CUR%20nova%20gte%20project/DSCF0023.jpg

Then belled around with my new go-kart for a while.

http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/xx16/MattBrown9600/C811CUR%20nova%20gte%20project/DSCF0039.jpg

http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/xx16/MattBrown9600/C811CUR%20nova%20gte%20project/DSCF0041.jpg

Finished the xe engine totally now, just needs a new thrust bearing, then goes back together:d

http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/xx16/MattBrown9600/C811CUR%20nova%20gte%20project/DSCF0037.jpg

Then it was onto the seating, so we have "Improvised" a spare beam I had sat here, and cut it up to use the steellol As im on a budget:thumb:

http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/xx16/MattBrown9600/C811CUR%20nova%20gte%20project/DSCF0028.jpg

So after the chop shop antics had stopped, we trial fitted the seats, and i squeesed my fat **** in, we have yet to weld them, but the position is sorted.

surely welding all the cage etc into this shell is a waste of time/money when you get to the next mot and he fails it for more rust etc?

just my input and fair play for having a go! but i think if doing a job, do it properly?? i would get another shell lol

we had the conversation about getting a new shell before we started welding up the shell.

tbh we both agreed the sheel was battered.

but as matt ahas all ready said, he wants to have a go at it and try to restore it. so if the work ain tthe best, well. its a learning curve and we'll only get better as time progresses. I've not been able to help as much due to change of jobs. so sorry to matt for lack of help assisting.

I aint gonna leave a £30+K a year job to do cars full time.

When I finish my apprentaship, If I can, Im going on shifts.

So on my days off, I can do cars for people, to pay the rent and rates on the unit etc.

It did run in his corsa, as he drove it to his, then realised the shell was a bodge, so have got a cheap mk1 white shell, clean, and cheap.

He since decided turbo wasnt what he wanted, think he is going smallblock (wierdo) lol

So no benn, not heard it run, but it turns over freely, the cams are unmarked/scored, the turbo seems to be in excellent free, zero play, and clean condition.

Rumoured to have 70k on it, the manifold says 70k, cav turbo, runner. Scrap yard yellow paint lol.

Also got, a mint uncut loom, totally un butchered.

And got a brand new rear pannel for £10, so was very happy with this:d

Erm, back pannel was removed, and I put new one in today.

All went well enough, not 100% replica of spot welds, but its a neat steeight job!

Well, a fair bit of time has passed.

And through one thing and another not alot has happened.

I have decided to scrap injection, and go for carbs, as this is going to be a track car for the forseeable future:thumb:

Right, well, I have removed the cage, finished the plates on the floor:)

All plates are sorted now, got some holes left to drill etc

Heres a pic of the inside after the 1st coat of paint

http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/xx16/MattBrown9600/bffb1454.jpg

As you can all see, I have made the seat brackets, some may like them, others may not, its so the seats can be moved, for my gf, me, and a friend of mine who will be driving the car, and a couple of members off here namely srs1:thumb:

http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/xx16/MattBrown9600/dfe43ecc.jpg

Those with a keener eye will spot a brand new rear pannel, this has been welded in, spotted, seamed in places etc.

Maybe not the most amazing of "factory weld spots" But I lifted the shell up off it, and it never moved, so can't be badlol

No pics as such, but ill show some randoms lol

http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/xx16/MattBrown9600/62f77b0d.jpg

http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/xx16/MattBrown9600/e9a4689c.jpg

Here is the wiring loom, debated removing it totally (only need 3 wires for my setup) however, I want everything to work incase of nurburgring work, and if it ever becomes a road car (depending upon if I like it, and will wiat afew years yet)

http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/xx16/MattBrown9600/2b3ea567.jpg

I have also fathomed out the problem with the welding set, I have copied the settings from my friend at silverstone autosports, and used his settings. Now its perfect, and wish I had set it like this to begin with lol

I havnt got it perfect, but if you look at the jig, its a deaply penatrated, nice, rippled weld, that mates both surfaces:thumb:

http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/xx16/MattBrown9600/aca26235.jpg

I am indeed, and seeing as how I am actually growing up (doubtful)

I figured it was a good first track car, Ive done welding, wiring, engine work, clutch, gearbox, built shafts.

Shot blasted everything, and done basically everything.

The only thing I didnt do was the welding in the bay, this looks abit rough, but ill grind it off, do it again, and if its rough, do it again etc lol

Regarding legals.

It will have all the requird parts for an mot, a 95 or under db exhaust.

And will be on road legal tyres

I can mot it, but its a pain getting it to and fromlol

Right, seeing as im not driving, and I don't enjoy the garage on my own, I havent been down there much, also bought some other toys so been playing with them lol

Updates as follows.

Floor now fully welded and plated over ETC.

Harness mounts (6 points) all in, welded and painted/sealed.

Front chassis legs stitched all along.

Few bits of rot in the rear coreners of the boot floor have been plated.

Seats mounted now.

Brakes all blasted and painted up.

New disks and pads.

Gearbox has been cleaned up and painted again.

Kent vernier pulleys arrived today, need to order cams.

Going for carbs now not injection as according to LEE H, theyre from the 19th centurylol

I turned down £2k before I took it off pistonheads.

That was from Ireland.

I wouldn't take a penny less then £2250.

You couldn't put quarters and other panels on one for that.

Bazils pannel bill is £2200, and has more to buy!

IMO it's worth that, as it's the perfect base for a mint show car or big power turbo!
