The photography dept very kindly gave me (free) a nikon D100 DSLR body which was closely followed by someone else offering me a Sigma 55-200mm lens the folowing day. Its only a 6 mega pixel jobbie but the bodies still go for around £200.
Its got so many buttons i had to download a 200+ page manual just to see what they do. Any tips?

Some test photos

Cheers chaps, given that i've spent the last 2 years trying to justify the cost of a DSLR i was gobsmacked when i was offerd the body for free. The only problem now is waiting to get to a show to photo something other than a black novalol

Pics are very very nice, the two engine bay ones have an awesome depth to them.

Engine ones are lush, i'm looking forward to taking some shots of yours Benn, The pics i've seen on mig, the colour really stands out.

I saw some shots last year from a guy called Olly and his moving shots are fantastic

with my DLSR (nikon d50), i just have it set on auto, with the lense set to auto focus. and point and shoot. 90% of the time you get a clear picture.

Have you tried it without, is it much harder?

Olly is a fantastic photographer! His pics are awesome. Please feel free to take as many as you want.

Best tip? Keep playing with it, beauty of a digital camera is if it's a crap pic, delete it, no waste. I've had mine 18 months now and still get some garbage pics, but keep playing with the settings, and findwhat works for you :)

yeh i have tried it with out, and its not harder, just slower if that makes sense.

i dont have a tripod or any kind of stand, so i let the auto focus do its work.

Looks like lots of buttons to play with, totally get what you are saying about it being slower, shots missed by the time you sort and correct settings. Are you shooting raw image
