My car didn't come with a parcel shelf so I decided to make my own stealth shelf, and totaly ballsed it up, r the proper ones made by auto acoustics any good, or wud me finding a parcel shelf out of a scrap nova and cutting holes for me 6 x 9s produce about the same result for a fraction of the cost? I mean ?85 for a parcel shelf :o is it really worth it??

your idea wont really work with a standard parcel shelf because they are very flimsy, not sure how u could bugger up making a steath shelf!! lol, u would be better goin to ur local b&q or hombase etc and buy a sheet ov mdf, buy or borrow a jig saw, then make a template out ov cardboard ov where you want the shelf to go, the draw round ur template onto the mdf, then goto ur local fabric place and get some nice looking cloth, when you come to sticking the cloth over the holes that uv cut for the 6*9's in the mdf, cut a bit ov cloth that just covers the holes and stick that down well stretched out, then put the big bit over the whole lot and stick/ staple it all down to look good!!

all that for under ?85 and the satisfaction ov doin it all by urself

Make your own out of MDF or similar. Dont buy one unless your made of money! There are plenty of guides about of how to make one. Measure the space or round an original and cut one out of mdf and stapel some felt stuff to it.

Why not do you boot floor while your at it!! :D

Is it just me who thinks that the standard rear shelf is strong or what?

I found no problems with my standard rear shelf, infact i had a hard time cutting it and snapped a blade :?

I say if you wanna save money then get a standard rear shelf and carefully cut out ur 6x9 holes, go to halfords and get acoustic cloth for 9 quid, get some velcro to attach to the rear side of the shelf and on to the cloth (so you can reomve the cloth if you need to get BIGGER speakers  ) and your done.

I done the same and it cost me 13 quid

If that dont work the do what Ballsy and Nova-boy said

I agree that a standard shelf works fine for a set of 6x9. But if you have no shelf like you said and cant find one from a scrappy then make your own.

I had a set of 6x9 on a standard shelf and it was strong enough but the weight made it squeek on the hinge things. Put a strip of draught exluder round it to stop any rattles and squeeks.

the idea behind an mdf shelf is that it doesnt flex and therefore all the effort that the speaker is puttin into makin sound is put into makin sound whereas if the shelf is flexing some of this effort is lost therefore not as loud or sound quality i say mdf shelf and ur better off bying proper accoustic carpet as this doesnt restict the sound as it passes threw it where as if u just put ne cloth on it it mite i mad my shelf for ?30 icludint the proper carpet and spray glue

I was lucky enought to buy a Nova with a stealth shelf already in it, they are quality made, look good & smart & security wise they are very good & I have had no problems with it.

Would I spend ?85.00 on one though, prob not!
